TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep!
This is a great show. It needs to be renewed.
Keep it! Love the adventure without all the violence and language.
Love “The Librarians” series. great show. all I can say to TNT is don’t do like A&E and get rid of your best shows. The Librarian series can go on and on. The cast is great. love watching them, they seem to interact well together. I actually record the shows and watch them during the week over and over. I watch the back to back shows Sunday night without even a second thought as to what else was on.
Renew!!
Keep it, please. A good show, with a great premise. Good family viewing.
Keep it! I love seeing Christian Kane again and this is a Quality show.
Must keep great show for family
keep keep keep!! I love this show so much!
The Librarians is a fun tv show that allows you to take a step back and focus on magic and the different possibilities that are out there. Keep the tv show!!! It’s a fun and interesting show that can be watched with the family. I couldn’t wait for the next episode, I wanted more. Each character balances one another out, as well as supporting one another. This show also provides diversity within the characters and shows different perspectives on how each one has their own talents.
Keep it! Renew it!!!
Keep it! I’m so sick of the only shows that keep going for years and years are all about sex, drugs, and death. We need more wholesome, clean fun. Plus, you learn some pretty interesting things while you are being entertained.
Keep this show. Dress Cassandra like an adult not a 14 year old girl. Love Christian Kane.
Keep it!!! From the youngest (my 7 year old) to the oldest (my mother, 66 years old) member of our household, we’re all watchers of this awesome show! It’s a family-fun show that we enjoy together! It’s definitely a keeper!!
Please keep this series going!! In world of entirely too many horrible “reality” shows (The Real Housewives of Who Gives A Damn, most of the junk they’re showing on TLC, for example), it’s a breath of fresh air to see some thought, creativity, and fun back on TV!!
