TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep, please please keep.
My aunt and I have a bet going that Jenkins in Arthur and DuLac is Lancelot.
You can’t cancel the show until we know for sure.
I love this show! Please bring it back for season 2 and beyond! It should be renewed!
I love it! A definite keeper!
Keep it! The show is so much fun! It always makes me smile and we need more of that kinda thing.
Yes!!! Keep it!!! If you don’t I will be very unhappy. Only a few shows left on TV that I will even watch. Please… keep … THE LIBRARIANS 🙂 Thank you so very much for a great show and wonderful first season 🙂 Kudos to all connected to this project!!!
Must keep. Love to watch Librarians on Sunday. It is something the entire family likes to watch.
Keep it going, its a well written story and a group of dynamic actors, there should be at least 1 more season
I think the show is coming into its own and I enj watching it. I’d like to see a second season.
Should most definitely be renewed for at least another two seasons. Ugh I can’t wait to find out what’s in store for the Librarians next. Plus we just got the library back you can not just drop us like that.
If it’s canceled, we riot.
Love the show “The Librarians”. It is a little bit dorky but that is part of it’s charm. Just a good TV show that is enjoyable to watch. Please keep it going!
Please keep this show. My family LOVE this show.
They need to renew the Librarians
Renew, renew, and renew! Love the concept and I have always been a fan of Bob Newhart, Jane Curtain, and Christian Kane. I like Noah Wylie continuing his role he started in the movies, as well. Please don’t let this show go.
Keep for sure! It would make no sense to cut this show. Don’t pull another Leverage on us TNT.
Librarians is AMAZING!! Please renew it!
