TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep it. My kids and I love to watch it on Sunday
It took a couple of episodes for me to like it. Now I can’t wait to see it. I told my wife and family when it’s on, don’t bother me. I even skip my sports for this show. You created a great chemistry been the characters. Let’s have some more. I always bring your show up when I’m out. Word of mouth is great advertising.
PLEASE renew this show! It’s one of the few we can watch together with our children as a family, and we all love it! The Librarians definitely needs to be renewed!!!
Please keep this show. I do not get excited much about a new show. The cast fits so well together. Thank you for making my Sunday nights a little better.
Keep
Keep it! I love this show, there are no others like it!
I would love to see this show continue on. Its creative, fun, and magical, unlike so much of whats on TV nowdays. I feel that the Librarians has so much potential to move forward. The actors work well together and i love its humor. Definitely a keeper.
Renew, Renew, Renew
Love this show!!! Please keep it!
Please keep this show! I was instantly hooked. We need more shows like this one!
Keep it
i love the show. Please renew
Keep it! Good fun. Well done. Why would you not?
The Librarians should be renewed. It has a good cast, well written and engaging scripts. I was sad to hear they took Warehouse 13 away (on another network) but this kind of fills the void and is similar in someways. I hope they keep it going.
Librarians is a great show. The concept, the characters, the storylines are all well thought out and acted. So many shows aren’t given a chance to build a following,. guarant, you give this show a chance, you’ll have a bonafide hit on your hands.
