TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

I can’t believe there’s even any doubt that The Librarians should be renewed! It’s a great show that a whole family could sit and watch together, not many of those around today! So much fun! TNT messed up their other great show, Leverage, too! Just renew the show, it’s doing as well as any “anchor” show on the network! Don’t be ridiculous!

My husband and I greatly enjoy The Librarians. The show has a good cast, interesting stories and great plot twists! We look forward to a second season.
PS. If you can remember that far back, MASH almost didn’t get a 2nd season!
I liked watching Perception and Franklin & Bash! and I enjoy the cast of The Librarians. I enjoy ‘clean’ and entertaining shows… why can’t Hollywood understand that?

RENEW THE LIBRARIANS! Christian Kane is awesome as is Rebecca Romijn; love seeing her on the screen! The storylines are fascinating and it’s plain cool to see such a mix of characters working together to solve the magical mysteries.

Please renew The Librarians for another season!!!!!!! This show not only fills the void left by Leverage & Warehouse 13, but creates a fascinating world of its own!! The characters are engaging, and the stories captivating. Please don’t disappoint a legion of loyal fans! Bring back The Librarians with ALL the main characters!!

I am really enjoying “The Librarians”. You have a great cast and this will give Noah something to do now that “Falling Skies” is finishing up! Huge Christian Kane fan as well..and you simply can’t go wrong with Rebecca! Quality entertainment and great cast chemistry..don’t blow it!
