TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Please renew the show but replace Rebecca R.!
Please keep this show- it’s a show that we enjoy as a family and we also really enjoyed Franklin & Bash as well too bad it got cancelled
Keep it, PLEASE. If stuff I like keeps getting cancelled, I won’t need to turn the tv on.
Keep Keep Keep
Please keep it running. One short season wasn’t enough to make a judgment to cancel! It’s nice to have nice clean family friendly shows for a change!
KEEP IT! I absolutely love it 🙂
Love this show! I hope it returns.
Please, please, PLEASE renew. It’s funny, has Christian Kane, it’s witty, it HAS CHRISTIAN KANE, it’s a little silly, it has Noah Wylie. Thank you for letting me beg. IT HAS CHRISTIAN KANE AND NOAH WYLIE!
Keep the show. It’s light and fun. Both of these things are lacking on m any network shows things.
PLEASE keep the Librarians. It’s the best thing on Sunday night television.
Don’t be stupid and cancel another great show, so it got a rocky start, it is a Great show, th movies are great the actors in this show are great, you need to just spice it up a little and put the main character back into it more, the real librarian, and if possible, throw in Bob Newhart, it is something I wait for weekly, you have already killed perception and Covert affairs on me, what else, are you really trying to make me stop watching your station altogether! KEEP THE SHOW!
I love the Librarian show! Loved all the movies and truly enjoy the tv series. Please keep. There aren’t very many good clean shows on anymore! Keep.this one 🙂
nice show. Family oriented. Very Disney. Keep it going. It’s holding my interest.
The Librarians is a keeper. Making a decision this early is unfair. Between holidays and the fact the channel has moved it around, it deserves a stable place so more people can tune in. I miss Perception by the way. Don’t go the way of A&E an d tank decent shows in the name of reality TV. Good acting and good writing are fast disappearing from cable…the very medium that promised good programming…better than the network programming. Keep this show going please!
It’s a GREAT show! Then Again I would watch anything with Christian Kane in it!! RENEW PLEASE!
