TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

I love the show! TNT has proven themselves stupid in the past by renewing things like Southland (it had worse ratings than Leverage, which was a great show!) This one has everything TNT needs to get back to being a great network: great cast, beautifully written episodes, fans that want to come back again and again for new adventures weekly. This show even beat out the Golden Globes in viewers (a feat that doesn’t occur often!) just two weeks ago. Please renew The Librarians. It’s fun & engaging. I loved the 3 movies & now get to continue the adventure with this show & the fun new heros.
PS: I loved Christian Kane in Leverage, and I am loving him in this show too. So please bring it back.

The Librarians has been a great addition to Sunday night programming in our household. It is so refreshing to watch a program with the quirky interactions of all of the characters, great special effects, and just the sincere overall effort to create a quality program for the viewers. It has made it fun to watch TV again, and the bonus of some of the information they talk about might just come in handy for a trivia night some time. I would definitely love to see the show move on to a second season. I’ve really been enjoying it and my family and I look forward to Sunday every week. The actors and the storylines are amazing and truly a pleasure to watch! 🙂

KEEP THE LIBRARIANS — it is the best show to come out in over a decade, I do not watch that much TV and I am particular what my family watches so we need The Librarians to come back for another season again and again. We LOVE it.
