TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Keep the Librarians, its the best show on TNT since they canceled Leverage. I love the show; the stories are very entertaining and the characters are fun to watch as they adapt to their new lives, working with each other and the incredible world of magic they are now exposed to.
Whole family Watches every Week and love the Librarian and the storylines
Keep I love this show
Keep it!! Please!!! My family loves it!!
absolutely! I love the show & the season finale just left me wanting more!
Love it! Please keep it TNT!
Keep it my family love it is definitely a new favorite.
I like it! It’s a little bit Raiders of the Lost Ark, a little bit Doctor Who. Wish Noah Wiley, Jane Curtain and Newhart were on it more frequently. I like the new characters, but I have trouble understanding all but Rebecca Romejn and Larroquette. They speak too fast and too flippantly while they expose the details so it’s easy to miss them. But I hope things can continue with good historical yet magical stories based in fact.
KEEP THE LIBRARIANS ! There are too many shows that are filled with your standard who done it. Or silly slapstick or safe humor . It is fantastic to have a show that is creative and genuine. The cast is great and the stories are genuine. I look forward to my Sunday’s to see The Librarians. Please keep the show.
Keeper
Keep it!!! I love this show. Its something for everyone.
Me and my family enjoy the series the librians. We make it our family night. A time when our teens put down their electronics and want to spend time with mom and dad. I am not saying electronics are a bad thing but seriously it means a lot to us parents, since we only have a few good years and the make the choice to leave home. So keep up the excellent TV series. Thanks.
KEEP, we really need this show to be on
Keep! My favorite guilty pleasure! Been a fan since the first movie and I want to see more!
KEEP it! I need my Christian Kane fix!! It has so much promise and uniqueness. What a disappointment it would be to lose it.
