TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Love this show, has three F’s – Fun, Fresh and Family. I love how smart it is showing you how the things we know and learn can help us. I like that I can sit down with my 12 year old an we both love this show (finally a show for a family and it isn’t some stupid reality show). Thank you!!

Love the movies, love the show awesome new stories each time, the cast is just awesome, hoping to see atleast 5 seasons out of The Librarians, So lets get this show going for a long time! Ps. If there was another post from me I hit it but it didnt post for me lol
This a great show. Me and my husband watch it every week. Even our little kids like the show don’t cancel the show.
Love The Librarians! Please please bring it back for many more seasons!!! I was a huge fan of the movies when theycame out and was so delighted to hear that Dean Devlin was going to bringing us this series. Having Noah Wyle reprise his role as Flynn was fantastic and finding out that my favorite actor Christian Kane was going to be in it thrilled me be on belief!! Cannot wait for Season 2!!!
