TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Keep this show alive. It has been wonderful and imaginative, unlike most of the stuff on television.

This is a great family show. Kids like magic and mom likes story between Noah/Rebecca. Cast has superb chemistry. Kids cannot watch violence on network tv anymore.

I adore this show. It would be such a shame to see it go. It makes my weekend complete.
I like the show. Have never missed an episode. Sometimes the dialog can be a bit corny. If I were to make a casting change it would be Romijn. I think her acting isn’t on the same level as the rest of the cast. Keep it on.
Love the series – for me personally is so very different yet it has it all the flare intensely bundled content wonderfully than any other televised/cabled show watching experience than in the past and what is out there now for this kind of ‘on the edge’ series…hope to see another season than to see it cancelled on the wayside…
I mostly watch online and I don’t think those numbers are being looked at? and/or even considered?!?; primarily due because they are watched after the airing of any show the day or even a few days after…

I hope it stays. My wife and I both liked the mivies that Noah Wiley stared in. The series is much the same. Please don’t cancel it.
I love the librarian movies. When I saw they were making it into a series I jumped out of my chair in excitement. Now that the show has aired it did NOT disappoint. If they cancel this show, (I was upset when perception got cut & franklin & bash) I will hunt down TNT executives & let them have it. I will stop watching TNT altogether & that’s hard because I watch most of their shows. Everything about this show is wonderful. The actors, the storyline & the adventures the librarians have.
