TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

You must keep it. Too many great shows have been canceled due to stupidity. Librarians is a most keep going for at least one more season.

Of course, we won’t a second, third, fourth plus seasons. I was wonderful storytelling with an awesome cast. There is so much more you can show and give to the audience. It gives people like myself an opportunity to dream of things that could be something right now the world needs to see. HOPE!

Please, please, PLEASE keep this show Mr. Devlin & TNT! Loved the movies & the show is just as engaging if not more so. Plus it would be great to see Flynn have a successful love life! 😀 Show is awesome…don’t let your fans down!
Please keep the show!!!! If anything has to change maybe Rebecca .. I love her as mistique but the other characters on this show are on a different level and its noticeable but I really do love the show and the season was funny and great;I would love to see this as a series!!!! I’m so happy to see christian Kane in this sort of role and I personally love the original movies with Noah…. Fantastic keep it going please!!!
Keep The Librarians on the air. It is one of the few shows worth watching on TV right now.
KEEP IT! I only watch 5 shows on tv because most of it is junk to me, The Librarians is the best of those five and I haven’t missed one episode of it. Dean Dvlin and John Rogers have done an outstanding job on this show and it deserves more seasons! Christian Kane is great as Jacob Stone, everyone on the show is doing a wonderful job. I would hate to see the show discontinued. The Librarians is an innovative concept with a great cast, in a sea of derivative nonsense. It is one of the very few shows i can watch with every generation of my family. I myself am 57 my daughter is 32 and my grandson is 16 and we all watch it together…it is the one time a week we are sure to be in the same place at the same time.
Please keep this show. I really have enjoyed the adventures and love the chemistry of the characters and cast.
