TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

I enjoyed the movies and the series has continued to provide my kind of entertainment. I’ve enjoyed Christian for years. It has been odd seeing Rebecca without body paint though. I hope they decide to keep it going.
Please keep it and renew – it needs some time to build the characters of a show, every time – but now it works!!
Please keep The Librarians.
Please keep the show! It’s entertaining and fun and we all need that every now and then.
Keep it!!! I love the movies and the show is even better!
please keep the show, it was just starting get were I wanted to watch the show every Sunday night
Keep it!!!!!!! Love the show!!!!
I love the show . I didn’t anticipate that I would enjoy the show as much as I do ! TNT you made the mistake of canceling “leverage” PLEASE DONT REPEAT YOURSELVES AND CANCEL “THE LIBRARY” !
Keep Librarians. It’s that fresh something else amongst all the cop series on television.
The Librarians is the best show ever !! I love it 😀 I will keep spreading the word for people to like it 😀
I do not have any cable or satellite to watch TNT unfortunately, but when I did I watched all 3 of The Librarian movies and loved every second. I feel that giving this show another chance and maybe opening old seasons to Netflix or Hulu could bring in more potential viewers. Please, don’t give up on this fun and interesting show?
Please keep this show, it is such a great family show which is so hard to find these days.
Please please please stop cancelling good television. Perception. Leverage which actually won a peoples choice award days after the series finale which should prove how hastily some of these decisions are being made. Now you have yet another oppertunity for excellent television please dont screw it up again. Im not sure how it works anymore but does the ratings system take into account all the people who use things like dvrs and tivo and record everything to watch at a later date? because if not there is a whole fanbase being discounted simply for not wanting to watch live television.
Definitely please keep, have really enjoyed them and would love to see more. There’s too many good shows being cancelled.
OMG….You have to KEEP the Librarians…it’s AWESOME…the BEST thing on tv in a long time !!!
