TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Keep it it’s been my number one tv series in a long time. It would be sad to lose such a good series with so much potential this early on.

There are very few shows like this – original premise, light-hearted fun, mixing a little fantasy with a little history. TV for me is entertainment, and this is entertainment. OK, so it appeals to my geekier side too (a statement which makes my wife smirk in agreement). I don’t need any more uber-serious cop shows, just a bit of fun and uplifting diversion. So please: Renew for season 2!

I really hope they renew The Librarians! It has heart and is wonderful family-friendly entertainment!! That cast is superb and the story is just getting started. Don’t let this become the next Firefly (cancelled long before it’s time).
Keep it!! It’s been great and if shows are given the time to properly develop then it will be even better. USA are too quick to give up on good shows because the ratings aren’t massive.

KEEP THE SHOW PLEASE!!!!! I was SO EXCITED when I found out you were releasing a series based on the movie trilogy!!! LOVE THE MOVIES AND LOVE THE SHOW EVEN MORE!!!!!! ALL the Characters are GREAT and Dynamic!!!! We need more “FUN” type shows and LESS of the Reality TV. This is more Quality Family Entertainment as well as an opportunity to get more people interested in HISTORY. It would be an awful mistake to cancel “The Librarians.” The show puts a positive spin on learning in a “brick and mortar” library rather than the overused “Internet” education. It does bring families together and can initiate dialogue between children and their parents. Education is power – magical power!
Keep it or if you want to cancel it bring back leverage
