TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

This show is so amazing! It feels like I’m watching those perfect adventurous movies of older years but with something new and fresh in them. Of course we need more seasons of it!
I really like the show a lot! Please keep it going! I love the way that you can forget about life and go to so many different places even if it is only for an hour. We need more shows like this on tv.

Please give “The Librarians” a chance to build an audience base. Remember “Cheers” was almost canceled the first season and went on to do 11 seasons. I think with the loyal fans, word of mouth will strengthen that base to a decent show that will live for many seasons to come. “Leverage” came on CBS and when canceled there came to TNT where it went for 5 seasons. So please keep “The Librarians” on, give it a decent chance to shine.

Warehouse 13 ended and I had to find something similar to keep me entertained in my spare time. The Librarians is similar in many ways but still brings new ideas to the table. I’d be incredibly disappointed if the show ended before it reached its full and wonderful potential. The possibilities for the backstories of each character and the overall story arc can still be changed and expanded on, unlike in Once Upon A Time where the show has become increasingly focused on a smaller number of characters, detracting from the show’s original attraction.
They need to keep this! It has so much potential!!! Didn’t help it was against Sunday night football, but it is SSSSOOOOOO much better then “reality shows”. And it’s creative and different!!!
and Christian Kane is a hottie…
Please keep this show, I’m sorry the first season was so short! I loved the movies and the TV series continues in the same vein. I adore Christian Kane and agree Noah Wyle should be in it as a regular. Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin should also come back, as their roles in The Big Bang Theory and Third Rock from the Sun respectively show, they would be assets. I’m also a librarian and it’s great to see a positive portrayal of librarians for once!

Please keep The Librarians. I watch it in the UK and absolutely love it. The mix of fantasy and humour is great and I would hate to see it get cancelled! On top if that it has Noah Wyle and Christian Kane! What’s not to like! 🙂
Oh, please, please keep the show! It is so much fun and deserves to be renewed! The only way I can watch this show is by purchasing the season from Amazon. I don’t do that EVER, but I did it for this show because it’s AWESOME!!!
Please, Please RENEW!!!!! This is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL Family show and there are so Few out there any more!! You can let your imagination run wild!! And hear the classic stories of King Auther, Galahad, the loom of fate. And most importantly you can watch it with your children and not have to send from the room because of something inappropriate .
