TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Here’s my 2 cents… The show is bloody brilliant! There’s a huge hole and need for fantasy / sci fi shows in this overabundance of “reality” tv. And doubly so, since the show is family friendly. I do think that had they not chosen to premiere the show during football season, and on the main football day as well it would’ve had double the ratings! The cast compliment each other, and fill their roles intensely well. keep it!!! Christian Kane is freaking awesome and seriously the only reason I watch TNT, after they cancelled Leverage the other show he was on I once again stopped watching TNT. Me and my whole family have gotten into the Librians, don’t cancel another great deserving show. Make at least a 5 year deal now.
Please renew for a 2nd and 3rd season at least. This show is good and is something my 14 year old daughter actually looks forward to watching each week.
I started watching the show from the first episode as a fan of one of the actors. I have fallen in love with this show. The unexpected twists and turns, the intrigue, the quick witted conversation and the developing relationships between the characters has completely sold me on it. There must be a continuation of the this show. More The Librarians please!

Live this show. Keep it. So few good shows get renewed and its frustrating
The show should be aired!!! It’s an incredible combination of “Indiana Jones” and “Warehouse 13” and those two worlds were bringing entertainment to thousands of people. The show is funny, witty, but gives one something to think about. Actors are incredible, the script is funny and adventurous, what else could we ask for?
This is a great, fun show. so many shows out there start off ok then suddenly get complicated and serious, which takes away the reason you liked them in the first place. The Librarians is a show that makes you route for the characters and delivers a completely enjoyable watching experience. Dean Devlin got it right with Leverage and he’s done it again!

I really liked The Librarians and think TNT should keep the show. It’s one of the better shows they have on.
Remember when a tv show ran for more than one season before the powers that be pulled the plug? No, neither can I. It seems that these days many new shows don’t even get to get out of the starting gate before it falls at first hurdle. The Librarians has drawn in a wide demographic across the world, bringing together fans of the movies, fans of the cast and fans of the guest cast, to cancel it would be madness especially when there is is much potential for a second and third series.
