TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

I love this show. The actors are perfect for each part. Please don’t cancel.
I love the show, but unfortunately it is on a night going against, Once Upon A Time, Downton Abby and Sunday night Football. I usually watch it later on On Demand.
Please KEEP The Librarians!!
I would LOVE to see what other adventures are in store for us!!
I say to defiantly keep the librarians!!!!! I love this show.
keep the show! It’s funny and a lot better than most shows showing close enough soft porn, and nasty words that should be kept off the “family time” . It’s about time a good show stayed on longer than one season!!!
Please kee the show!!! I need something magical in my life I need The Librarians!!! KEEP THE SHOW FOR MORE SEASONS!!!
Please, please, please come back for more seasons! I need this show in my life. ***
I really enjoy watching The Librarians with my daughter. Please renew!
Please keep the show going. It’s nice to have a show that is not full of sex and murder that is actually entertaining
I love the Librarians. Every Sunday, I have two friends, that come over to my house, so the three of us can watch it together and then talk about afterwards.
Keep it. Good fun. While we’re dreaming, buy rights to “Revolution” and bring that back for at least a season to complete story arc. I hate it when shows are cancelled without resolution.
Keep the show. My boys and I love watching the show together.
Please renew the show. I enjoy it.
Although I enjoy Devlin’s work (Leverage, which TNT cancelled even though it was a good show) The Librarians is corny. Like, really substandard B-Rate movie corny. I stopped watching after the 2nd episode because I couldn’t stand the badly choreographed fights, the pathetic make up on the minotaur (which really looked like a reject from the Power Ranger’s villain trailer) and the jumbled together story line. This show wasn’t what I was expected from John Rogers and Dean Devlin. Corny and sad in so many ways. Bring back Leverage though, that was a good one.
Please, PLEASE KEEP IT!!! Please don’t be like Fox was with ‘Almost Human’; getting us all hooked on a great new show and then ******** us (the fans) over by cancelling it after only one season. Everyone knows the first season of any new show is for establishing the characters, and that it takes at least THREE to FOUR seasons for a great show to become a fantastic show; and ‘The Librarians’ IS a great show with huge potential, so please give it a chance to mature from the great show that it is to the fantastic show that we… Read more »
