TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Keep. It is a fun and entertaining show, and love following Christian Kane in whatever he does. A funny and talented actor.
The Librarians is a terrific show. It is a whole lot of fun. I suspect that showing two episodes per week may have had something to do with the ratings for the second week. Some people may not want to devote two hours a week to a show. Great cast. (Though I disagree that Wyle should be on more. The cast works great as an ensemble!)
TNT needs to keep the Librarians. The show is incredible and Christian Kane is amazing as Jake Stone. They have a great show on their hands and I hope they realize it. They entire cast makes the show fun.

I love this show….it is the only show that my family and I watch together. I really want another season
This show is pure entertainment. It offers fun, adventure, comedy, and a good deal of whimsy. Please don’t cancel this show. Programs and storytelling like this are so few. With the constant stream of reality shows and crime dramas, we need shows about friendship, treamwork, and most importantly doing the right thing. Do I think this show needs more character development and fewer special effects, yes. But it has so much to offer and who doesn’t love getting sucked into a world of magic once a week. I think it deserves another season. We just got to know the characters in this season and I’m interested in seeing how they grow.

I saw the teasers for this show all over youtube and was so frustrated that I ended up working whenever an episode was on. I’d love to see another season of this show. It’s fun in a way that can be enjoyed by all ages AND it teaches viewers about different cultures and historical periods.
