TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

my question is does tnt take into account all the people
who dvr and watch this show latter. also do they take into
consideration the time slot the show is in. they were competing
against the nfl most nights. i think they should renew and give
the show a better time slot. also take some consideration
for the folks who dvr
Please keep The Librarians for many more seasons to come. This is a show for all ages which is saying something in day and age. The characters are great and there’s no in your face sex and profanity. Also has a bit of educational materials for all to enjoy. Please bring the show back.
Keep it! I need a season 2!
Please, please, please, please, please bring back The Librarians. I love everything, from the story writers to the performers, the locations to the unanswered questions, the producers, directors, scene designers, tea person, special effects, publishers, extras, special guests… Well I could go through everyone and everything but the things I hate is the short series and the uncertainty about if there will be more. This program fills the void of Eureka, Warehouse 13, Leverage and all the other programs gone too soon. These programs helped me escape from the hell that is real life (multiple health problems for both myself… Read more »
I eagerly awaited for this series to premier and have have watched it every week excited for each new episode. I was disappointed that season was so short but will be even more disappointed if they cancel the show. I can not stand when networks do this. Give you a nice show and cancel it without notice just as soon as yoh begin to enjoy it.
Keep the show!
KEEP IT KEEP IT KEEP IT!!!!!
SyFy screwed us by ending Warehouse 13 (among other actual science fiction shows in favor of WWE…? Really, WWE Sci-Fi?).
Fox dumped Firefly, Almost Human, and more LONG before their time.
Please don’t follow the trend!
Definitely need to keep it. Too many good shows keep getting cancelled. Really dont want to see this one get cancelled as well.
please keep the show it is very good I enjoy watching the show its is different every week.
It is a great show! Let’s do more! It’s my Sunday night show!
Renew this for another season, my son and I love it!
This show has the combination of originality, wit, comedy and drama that is often lacking in many prime-time television shows that rely too often on special fx and reused storylines. Bringing it back for additional seasons would reignite the imagination of television yet again.
I really love this show and couldn’t wait for it to start from the minute I saw the preview. Noah Wyle character always keeps it interesting. PLEASE KEEP THE SERIES!!!
Please, keep this show going! My entire family loves it. All the characters are fanatic & the scripts are well written. It’s a wonderful breath of fresh air.
Please keep The Librarians, it’s a breath of fresh air. The trouble with keeping good shows boils down to the all mighty dollar. I bet corporate never watches TV any way, too busy counting dollars. They wouldn’t know a great show if they tripped over it. Half the shows that they replace them with SUCK. Did they ever think if they had a better product it would be bought.Plus the fact that we get 16 minutes of dumb commercials for each one hour program.
This show is very similar to Warehouse 13 – of which I totally loved! – and an American type of Dr. Who – of which is a fantastic, famous show! – and, although low in numbers for the whole of watching TV, it is right up there with the audience. I do believe this show could only get better, and as anyone can see – it already has a very strong fan base. If TNT would run with it, I believe it would surprise them what a good show they’ve got.
