TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

I’ve had to DVR the series, but I really enjoy watching the show. It’s like Indiana Jones, National Treasure add in some science fiction and humor. I look forward to seeing more episodes.
Keep the Librarians, it was great to have a show on that everyone can watch. It was fun and entertaining.
Keep it!
I am really enjoying TheLibrarians and would be disappointed if became a casualty already. I understand the business decisions that have to be made but sometimes networks do not give shows a real chance.
Please bring on more Librarians

Love the show. I really hope that they renew the show. It one of those rare great shows that you can watch with the kids and not worry about what they might hear or see.
Keep The Librarians TV show on TNT. It’s fun and different. The characters are good. I just wish Noah would make more appearances. He is the star of the first 3 movies. Wouldn’t viewers expect to see him on the show? If it were not renewed, I would surely miss it as I do Firefly, Warehouse 13, and other shows.
KEEP! My family and I watch The Librarians every week and Love It! Fun, entertaining, great acting and engaging storyline. The chemistry is amazing and the dialogue is wonderdul. Give this show a real chance at success.
Would love to see another season of Librarians.
Keep it!!!!
