TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

KEEP!!! An all-American Doctor Who, The Librarians will become a flagship show of TNT. 30 years hence, when TNT executives are celebrating the network’s and the show’s huge continuing success, they will toast the brilliance of their predecessors who approved and renewed the now-legend first season of the ground-breaking show.
Keep it, definitely. This has become my favorite show of the year!
It is a keeper!!!!!!! Than again, so was Leverage. Please do not disappoint me by cancelling this show.
Definitely keep it. I loved how each show ties together history and all the escapades these characters go through. The characters are rich and deep and engaging. I record this every weekend, even though I’m usually home to see it live. I really liked Perception too 🙁
Renew, renew, renew please! I love this show and I’m always looking forward to Sunday nights because of it! The Librarian movies were always my favorite, and this show has been a wonderful addition. Please keep The Librarians
Definitely renew! So nice to have a show the whole family can watch together (and enjoy!)
keep I love the movie series and the show
Please renew this show! I love the concept and the chemistry between all of the actors has grown as each episode progressed. I know that the Season Finale shows how it could, or would be if the show did not survive, but I think it should be given a second chance, especially since Warehouse 13 has left the air. This is a close second, and I think could only get better with time.
Keeeeeeeeppppp!!!!! Please.
Love it-great for the whole family! Please renew
LOVE IT.. KEEP IT.. RENEW IT PLEASE
Please renew the show, it is bright and interesting!
Renew!
KEEP IT!! What a fantastic show!!! I thoroughly enjoyed every episode. Can’t wait for the next season. Thanks TNT!
It’s a great show! You have got to renew it!
