TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

The response is simple. KEEP IT! The Librarians is waaaayyyy too good to be canceled. These 10 amazing episodes made me laugh, made me cry, at some moment they freaked me out, but most of all, The Librarians gave me each weeks, 41 minutes of pure happiness. KEEP IT!!!!

Keep it! I’m just now discovering it and it’s one of the few shows I can actually see myself anticipating watching week to week.

Keep it. Please, please, please, keep it. Everything in this show is just good : the actors are all fantastic and you get attached to the characters-all of them-extremely quickly, the stories are great, smart without being too complicated to understand, and it is funny, very very funny not through the situations so much, but because the characters are well written. I come to love characters in movies and TV shows I enjoy, some of them. I miss them when they’re gone/cancelled. To this day I wish I knew was C. J. Cregg and Josh Lyman from “West Wing” were doing. The Star Trek movies have been unsatisfying, because they have to spend their time of the main couple of stars, and I want to know more about Geordi and Dr. Crusher, for instance. Keep The Librarians!!! There are not enough fun, intelligent shows out there. It’s a little Leverage and a little Warehouse 13, both of which were great successes for their respective channels.
