TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Definitely Keep!! I loved Leverage more but if I can’t have Leverage I’ll watch Librarians any day!
PLEASE renew it!!! Keep it going, it’s a GREAT show!
Defiantly a keeper show. I only watch 1-2 shows per season because I limit my TV intake. I was disappointed that the season is already over. Only 10 episodes and I was hungry for more. I wish I didn’t have to wait so long until next season.
The interweave of the characters different personalities makes me choose a different favorite. Like I did with Leverage. Christian Kane must seek out these types of scripts
KEEP!! Please please please renew! So exciting and refreshing and fun, especially as it’s a family affair!!
Keep the show! It’s fantastic!!!!
Please please pleasee keep the show going, renew it.
Please keep The Librarians! My husband and I (we’re both under 40, btw) loved the original movies, and have liked the new series even more. We feel as though the story just got started, and we’re hungering for more! This has quickly become one of our favorite shows, and it would be so disappointing if it were cut before it really started. It has that same glorious escapist feel as the early- mid-’90s shows we grew up on.
Keep it it is fun and entertaining
I love The Librarians!!! The story line is great. It’s funny, adventurous, and very entertaining. I love all of the characters. They have such good chemistry. Please keep it!!
Please KEEP this show on!!
PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE re-new The Librarians. It is nice to be able, as a family to watch a show together. The stars are growing and coming into their characters. I think there is a lot of magical exploration for Christian Kane, Rebecca Romijn, John Larroquette, Lindy Booth, John Kim and Noah Wyle……#TheLibrarians.
Keep it!!
keep please
Keep it. There’s good writing, good acting, and a great balance of humor and and adventure.
