TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

I love the movie series. I am so in love with this show its not even funny I plan my weekends around it. I have to be in the house before 7:20; have to have a drink and my snacks and blankets on by 7:49 and I am all set. Please Please Please keep this show going this is the only show I watch that I couldn’t live with out. It is so cool to learn about these myths.
Keep it!
Please keep The Librarians. It’s an actual good show. Not many of them on tv today. It’s one of the few shows that, if I can help it, I don’t miss. Oh, and I’ll be buying the season when it comes out on DVD/Bluray.
I love the show The Librarian.I have watched all of the movies of The Librarian and I loved them I was hoping they would make a show out the movies.I think they should renew it.To cancel it would just be wrong.Anybody that says otherwise just does not know what is an excellent show.It is one of those shows that the whole family can watch.
Por favor mantengan la serie, los actores son geniales y la temática es muy interesante, se sale de lo común.
Keep it, please! It is a fun, imaginative show that does not take itself too seriously and is family friendly.
Keep! Keep opening minds, stretching, imagination.
Keep it! Much better than most series with out real history woven in. Plus the humorand cast make this an all time favorite. Please renew for another season!
Love this show. Very refreshing change from all the cop shows. Please keep this show for another season or 2 or more!
Keep it. Great show to watch with the family.
Keep it!!
KEEP IT!!!!!!!!!!! The show is great for many reasons, not least the ability to watch it with family. I can think of many more stories that could be told in the Library realm. I have missed seeing John Larroquette on my TV each week and have loved him in this. All the actors have brought unique talent to this show. The show does not take itself serious and that is the greatest thing as the comedy is infectious. Please give this show more seasons.
Keep the show, it’s a very good show and it stimulates the imagination we need more stimulation than we do junk, y’all cancel good shows and keep the bad ones, Who makes you host decisions anyway?
I love “Perception!” Cancelling “Perception” was a huge mistake on the part of young, inexperienced, and out-of-touch TNT executives. So, I hardly watch any shows on TNT.
However, I follow Christian Kane and learned about “The Librarians.” I have watched all episodes and love it even more than I love “Perception!” If TNT executives have any business sense, they will keep and protect “The Librarians” for years. If they don’t, I suspect they will lose a majority of the viewing (and purchasing) market.
Please keep this show it is entertaining and educational. The cast are great.
Keep it.
