TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Keep it! Love the cast!
Love this show please keep!
Keep it! I love this show.
Please……KEEP KEEP KEEP KEEP IT1
I really enjoy this show. At first I thought it was really corny, the. I fell in love with it. I would be truly disappointed if they cancelled it. It is a clean show, I would be okay letting my 8 year old niece watch this and there are shows that I really don’t like her watching in Disney or Cartoon Network. KEEP IT! Keep it! Keep it!
Keep it! The Librarians is a Smart, Fun show. LaRoquette and Noah along with the young ones are great. Please Keep the Show!
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW. I am in love with The Librarians. I think it has a lot of potential. I would be heartbroken if this show did not continue. Another season please!
Can’t get enough of the show! Looking forward to a second season!! Christian Kane & the whole cast do an awesome job every single episode!!
Fun stories, really great cast (past & present). KEEP IT
The Librarians is a wonderful show. No steamy, just subtle, romance. No real blood’n’guts, no “reality tv” crap. Just honest-to-goodness entertainment that has you pulling for all the characters. They’re zany, funny, serious, and they’ve learned to work as a team, mostly, and help each other out. Jenkins is hilarious. Oh please, with cherry on top, keep this show going!
Thanks! 🙂
Please Please PLEASE keep The Librarians!! I’ve got the first three movies on DVD (just loaned them to a friend KNOWing she’ll love the shows as much as I do). I’ve DVRed this first season, and will continue to do so. I love how Flynn is not in every episode (though he’s mainly why I wanted to watch), but I’ve grown to love all 5 characters. John Larroquette (sp?) is fantastic! I remember him from Night Court (yes I’m dating myself) and his quips and facial expressions are great. I thoroughly enjoy how the 3 Librarians and Guardian interact, keeping… Read more »
