TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep it! Love this show! They always get rid of the good ones!
KEEP I REALLY LIKE IT!!!!!!!!
Keep making The Librarians, please.
Keep the Librarians! Dean Devlin and John Rodgers make great TV! Terrific cast, outside-the-box stories, entertaining storytelling. And as several here have mentioned, it is nice to see something that doesn’t involve cops, lawyers, doctors or wealth. Keep The Librarians and bring back Leverage while you’re at it.
LOVE this show!!! Its my new favorite. Don’t cancel!! Keeper for sure!
Keep The Librarians. Great show! Does not follow the same predictable themes. Don’t need more police shows, doctor shows, vampire or even nighttime soaps. Stick with originality!
Keep for many seasons. There are so many twists the Librarians could take. Add a season finale cliff hanger each season. The show has a huge following and fan base. Devlin is brilliant and Frakes is genius. KEEP THE LIBRARIANS!
Our family really enjoyed The Librarians, and are keeping our fingers crossed that it will return!
This is a great show TNT should definitely keep it!
KEEP!! Love the show, its just so good to have not your average drama based in a hospital, police family/department/crime lab/ncis base. Has a lot of promise & not surprised at the drop in ratings, genera shows will have that.
Keep!! Love Noah Wyle and the rest of the cast. It’s good clean fun with magic and fresh twists to mythological/historical tales. My teenage daughter and I both like it (a rarity!).
Love it. Keep THE LIBRARIANS on…
Loved every episode of the Librarians.
Keep the show for a 2nd season. And would also love to see another movie.
Thanks Chuck
Definitely keep the show.
Keep the Librarians. Love this show. Great for the whole family.
