TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Season 2, please. This is great show with many stories to tell. Needs to be renewed.
Keep, please!
KEPP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, PLEASE keep this show! I LOVE the Librarians …….. and not just because I work in a library!! I’ve watched since the first movie and have enjoyed every minute.
keep! Love that is something different and pretty much kid friendly!!!
This is one of my new favorite shows. I was SO excited waiting for it to start! I’d seen all the movies and was so curious to see where it would go! Please bring more! Rich characters, strong stories and just the right sense of humor! It fills a home left by Leverage as well and is just as good!
Sorry guys. Thumbs down. It’s scooby doo meets Indiana jones. The script is very weak and often naive. Plots even more so.
Keep it!
KEEP! It’s a fun show with a great premise, engaging characters and actors who make me want to keep tuning in. LOVE IT! For reference, TNT, my absolute favorite TV program is Game of Thrones… The Librarians are pretty much the antithesis of GoT, and I need them for balance. Do you want to be responsible for throwing off my chi? I didn’t think so. 🙂 RENEW! (Or the Lannisters may send you their regards.)
Keep!
My family and i loved it! We hope to see a lot more.
I like it a lot . Please renew it!
It’s one of the few programs I actually chose to purchase from Amazon each week as I no longer subscribe to cable. Absolutely wonderful and a joy to watch. Keep it.
Please keep!
Keep it. This is one of the truely entertaining shows that has been on tv in the last few years. Sure there are drama, cop, animal, thriller, suspence shows everywhere. The Librarians has an excellant cast of characters. The show has lots of spins to keep you on the edge of your seat in every episode. I could go on and on, but I really hope to see much more of this show. HUGE FAN!!!!
