TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Great show! One of the few shows I can watch with my 7 year old son. Amazing stories and characters
Without a doubt, keep it!
Please keep this show. The cast is great and it will just keep getting better. This reminds me so much of warehouse 13, and I have been devastated since it’s series finale. Please keep this show going!
Keep it
Keep it 🙂
Renew!!! We want another season of a smart and funny televisions show. Something that the whole family can watch together without feeling the brain squishing of kiddie shows or the hide the eyes/cover ears of youngins of some adult shows. This is good TV that needs to continue.
Please renew The Librarians! I love the movies, and the TV shows are a great follow through. It is a welcome relief from all the “reality” shows and police dramas in various forms.
This is my #1 favorite show and my sisters we never missed an episode! When the season comes out we are buying it, i cant wait to see season 2 very excited this season kept me on my toes the whole time great job with the show <3
must keep…love it!!
The Librarians is a Keeper!
Keep The Librarians and make more episodes per season!!
keep please!!!!!
i love the librarians! Please don’t cancel them!!!
The Librarians is GOOD FAMILY FUN, entertaining, great sense of humor etc etc. It is important to keep this show for all age ranges. If we are forced to see only reality shows, The Kardashians or anymore shows where humanity professes their richness, spoiledness, manipulativeness, greed, deceit. etc etc etc. I will turn off tv. This show takes my mind off the crap from my day and is pure enjoyment. Kill it and all you’re doing is showing that nothing more than ratings points is important to the American viewing audience.
keep it…. I really enjoyed it. Have missed Christian Kane since Leverage. Please keep, all the good ones go away.
Please renew! The show is awesome!
