Last season, despite a move to Sunday nights and a big drop in the ratings, CBS renewed The Mentalist for a sixth season. Will the ratings continue to fall? Will CBS bring the show back for a seventh year? Stay tuned!
On The Mentalist, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) continues to help the CBI solve cases while he seeks to bring his family’s killer to justice. Also starring in the show are Robin Tunney, Tim Kang, Owain Yeoman, Amanda Righetti, Emily Swallow, and Rockmond Dunbar.
The higher a show’s ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better its chances for survival. New ratings data will be added as it becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/10 update: The Mentalist has been renewed for a seventh (and likely final) season on CBS.
5/19 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context here.

Last year comparison: The fifth season of The Mentalist averaged a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.5 million total viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you still like The Mentalist TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a seventh season?
The Mentalist is one of my favorite shows of all time. To me good shows are more than just the weekly “who done it” aspect. Let’s face it. Most folks with half a brain can figure out “who done it” before the opening credits are done. What makes the good long- running shows work is the chemistry of the characters. Sometimes it takes a few years before a show becomes a hit. Often the networks spend mega bucks on a show, only to cancel it just as it hits it’s stride. NCIS works because we wanted to see if DeNozo… Read more »
I think it must be renewed. It’s an amazing show with a fabulous plot and wonderful actors.
Renew it, please.
Best show on TV! What’s wrong with these idiots! It gets delayed and still came in strong last night!
of course it should be renewed it is one of the most watched show on the planet(really, look it up) CBS has been trying to kill it for a couple years probably because of the amount he makes , they lose a crap ton in the ratings just because most of the year they dont even qualify for primetime but the reboot is doing alright I think it will get better the new love interest will peak some viewers as well, still not sure about the 2 new FBI additions like rockmond not sure on the girl though
I think it should be renewed. I thoroughly enjoy the show. I an not sure I like the day and time it is on, but thank goodness I have a DVR. My mom is the same way. We both have watched the series since day 1. I think there are a few other shows that can go bye-bye. I was wondering what was going to happen after Red John was killed but I have enjoyed what the writers have done this season. Please keep it on!
I think the show should absolutely be renewed!! There’s no reason for cancellation. The ratings are very good considering that the show is on a terrible time slot and the show is delayed nearly every week!! The Mentalist is awesome and makes every sunday much happier!
First off, this is an amazing show and I don’t watch tv much, it is the only show I’m consistent on watching! You have put it on a sunday evening with the constant late startings because of football or whatever else. Though I enjoy football season it’s not fair to consider that it has poor ratings because the majority of us have to work on monday morning and can’t always stay up that late to view. This is an amazing show. It’s true I enjoyed it much more with the CBI team and am trying to adjust to the new… Read more »
I hope The Mentalist returns!!! I have watched every episode, most of them twice. I would LOVE to see Rigsby and Van Pelt brought to the FBI and take a page from Criminal Minds by having more national and international cases! Lets put the old cast back together in a new setting, without Red John and let Jane start having FUN! More of the “mentalism” with the impressive, awe inspiring, attention to detail and unconventional approach to crime solving that created a HIT TV show and less of the sick, twisted and disgusting violence!
RENEW THE MENTALIST!!!!
And get it off of Sunday Night!!!!!
When CBS puts a show on Sunday night they cannot judge it the same way a weeknight show is assessed. Football kills the schedule to the extent that many first time episodes are not shown when games go into overtime or if they are shown, are on after 10:30 p.m. Then there were all the specials that preempted regular programming on a Sunday night and the countless repeats. It appears that CBS targets its own shows for failure. I strongly urge CBS to renew the Mentalist and for that matter, Intelligence, a show which hasn’t been given a chance to… Read more »
Please give this show a chance. It just started getting exciting with the new move up to the FBI. I started watching it regularly again.
I miss Jane working w the CBI. And the show filmed partly in Sacramento, my home town. Im trying to adjust to the new cast and seeing Texas instead of beautiful California.
They should definitely renew The Mentalist …it’s a good show. But they need to put it in a different time slot other than 10pm on Sundays! The show has been delayed until 1030pm or even 1100pm because of a whole football season, award shows and now basketball! That time slot stinks!
TV execs have to cancel something every year to make room for the shows that will flop two or three episodes into the next season. It happens every year. A show that gets 10 mill viewers is canceled and is replaced by something that get 3 followed by a mid season replacement that gets 1 mill, which is kept on the schedule only to be cancelled 1/2 way into the next season. That is finally replaced by something that catches on. At which point the execs cancel a high rated show and repeat the process. And of course they take… Read more »
Sponsors need to reconsider how they count ratings and place adds. For instances , if someone does not have cable tv but is buying episodes of the Mentalist, or any tv show online they should place ‘brought to you by’ prior to viewing the show.
EnCbs has to be crazy to even think about canceling a show, that has 9and 10 million viewers. They should give fans what They want and have more jane and lisbon moments.cbs should move them to a better time slot., Then They would have even betitier rateings.
I agree. This 6th season is actually doing spectacular! The viewers for some reason aren’t as high, but the ratings are better than ever. If you check IMDB, then this is the best season yet.
