FOX has ordered six more episodes of The Mindy Project. The network had initially ordered 15 installments so there will now be 21 episodes, essentially a full season.
On The Mindy Project, a talented obstetrician (Mindy Kaling) has a chaotic personal life and struggles to find the elusive perfect relationship. Her workmates are played by Chris Messina, Ed Weeks, Adam Palley, Ike Barinholtz, Beth Grant, and Xosha Roquemore.
The sitcom is currently in its third season and continues to struggle in the ratings. It’s the network’s second-lowest rated scripted series and currently averages a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.4 million viewers.
Why order more episodes? FOX touts that The Mindy Project gets significant multi-platform and DVR gains. It’s also popular with women 18-34. The series will now have filmed 67 episodes at the end of the season. It’s possible that Universal is making an attractive financial deal with FOX to keep it going long enough to accumulate enough episodes for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like The Mindy Project on FOX? Why do you think they keep renewing the show?
Love this show
Best show ever!!
Best. Show. Ever!!!!!!
Funniest show I’ve seen in years. My wife and I loved it!
That it appeals to you (and because it’s so good this year) is why they need to be marketing better. It deserves a much bigger audience than the one it has / knows about it. Such a fantastic show.
I love Mindy!!!!
UGH… YUK!
that show is losing shows, like the mindy project & the new girl…… dont get me wrong the girls are hot but not to see……
This is great news… this is one of the funniest shows to come out in the past two decades. Nielsen stinks… I haven’t watched actual cable in 8 years, so I hope that the networks figure out how to read metrics from the web… Beyond that, the web is becoming a better ad platform than television — with TiVo and DVRs, you can’t force someone to watch the commercials… on the web, you can. And since ads are the networks bread and butter, they would do well to understand the future… Good thing most people aren’t pieces of garbage like… Read more »
Six more reasons why I can’t stand The Mindy Project and one of the shows you’re still not watching. Fox better stay in the “ratings basement”. 🙁
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this show and am so happy to read this.
William, that’s awesome!
How are TV ratings measured? This article says that ratings are low, but multiplatform and DVR gains are good? Shouldn’t those last two all be considered part of the measure of how well a TV show performs?
I just read an article about one of the top brass at one of the net works dissing Nielsen and why they are so far behind the times in getting the statistics that are needed. You can google it, he got down on them pretty good.
one of my favorite shows. Always manages to get a good belly laugh out of me at least 2 or 3 times per episode.of course at 66 years old I’m completely in the wrong demographic to be considered for watching the show.
