The Muppet Show was a huge success in syndication back in the 1970s but the follow-up series Muppets Tonight ran for two short seasons before being cancelled by ABC in 1998. Is the public ready for another Muppet TV show? Will this one be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
Set in a mockumentary style, The Muppets follows the lives of the crew behind talk show Up Late with Miss Piggy. Diva Miss Piggy is still driving Kermit the Frog and the rest of the gang crazy. The Muppeteer performers include Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Dave Goelz, Bill Barretta, David Rudman, Matt Vogel, and Peter Linz.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
10/30 update: ABC has ordered three more episodes of this series. Good news?
3/2 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like The Muppets TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for second season?
Been a Muppet freak since the 70’s. The new show is so refreshing to everything else that is airing. PLEASE Don’t cancel!!
I love this show, the writing great, even the cinematography is excellent
This show can never be great until they somehow bring back PIGS IN SPACE from the 70’s show! LOL
This series has so much potential. It has gotten better and better as the season has played out, more and more in tune with the Muppets and who they are. It needs to be given a second season chance to settle. There is nothing else like this on television today!
“There is nothing else like this on television today!”
You mean like, since The Office ran it’s course after 9 seasons? Oh, don’t forget about Modern Family and any others. Sorry, Gonzo said it best: “One-on-one interviews. What an overused device!”
That’s the joke, as it was with the original Muppet Show
This show is hysterical!! this show is very funny for both children and adults. They need to renew and give it more time I notice a lot of shows don’t get great ratings in season one then the networks cxl and then the ratings shoot back up when people watch the entire season on Hulu or on Netflix.and Netflix will pick it up. I think it wasn’t promoted as much as it could have been and should have been. I really hope they renew for season 2!!!!
What show are you people watching?? I watched the first three episodes and they were all about Piggy not getting along with her guests or Piggy not getting along with Kermit, or Piggy’s dating life. I miss the variety aspect of the original. It is basically a clone of 30 Rock except tbey are muppets. This show proves that just because the muppets are involved doesn’t make it a good show……
I completely agree about the first three shows. However, I’ve learned not to judge shows by their first episodes alone, but to come back later when they hit their stride. (Coincidentally, I loathed the early Office episodes in America but grew to love it later on.) I recommend checking out the reboot beginning with episode 14 when they start working in the variety aspect you miss and gave Piggy more dimensions.
They tried to bring back the regular muppets in 98. Didn’t work then. New muppets is modern and directed at the people who grew up with the muppets. Our sense of humor has changed a bit since we were kids don’t u think? The show had to evolve for us to enjoy it as adults. You have got to agree that ABC made a great decision with the direction they went in with this new modernized Muppet’s show
No it’s because Disney bought the Muppets and cancel the show right away.look it up
Disney didn’t OFFICIALLY buy the Muppets franchise until February 17, 2004. They were only INTERESTED in the franchise back in 1990 when initial negotiations began, which they cut off when Jim Henson passed away. They only helped to CO-PRODUCE The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island back in 1992 and 1996 while Muppets in Space was released in 1999 by Columbia Pictures.
Now…stop harassing people and telling them that they’re “wrong” when you yourself haven’t looked up any facts to back up your argument.
Actually, the movie’s titled Muppets FROM Space…but hey, can’t say I blame you for your ONE little typo there, considering the self-righteous ignorance you’ve chosen to combat against in this “Vooooy” character.
Not to be rude, but first off, Muppets Tonight came on the air in 1996 and only ended in 1998. Second of all, it wasn’t the show’s sense of humor per se that killed the show, but rather the lack of focus on classic Muppets like Gonzo, Fozzy, Bunsen and Beaker, and even Miss Piggy in favor of the newer characters (Bobo, Pepe and Seymour, Johnny Fiama and Sal). Heck, they made Clifford, who was relatively unknown amongst the rest of the cast, the host of the variety show that took place within the main program instead of Kermit, who… Read more »
Your wrong……Disney purchased muppets cancelled them! Because of their fan base. Good grief at least look up facts before posting.!
First of all, I hope the moderators who are running this board don’t consider this post of mine to be spam or a personal attack at all, because ultimately, Vooooy, I’m only doing what you’ve been doing, only with more civility. More importantly, however, you’re not the only one who holds a corner on the truth when it comes to the Muppets. Look at the bigger picture and pay attention to what Chris is saying. He/She is NOT wrong. Many people have had the same complaints about Muppets Tonight as he/she has brought up…and THEN some. No, the show wasn’t… Read more »
Look at how people reply, they didn’t even read comment. It looks like people attacking me, that isn’t allowed here.i don’t hope take action on people like this. People that experienced the cancell of that show knows. But it seems many just posted fake reasons without even looking up.
Omg people don’t know facts, they just Assume. Look it up and you see reason. It’s all there. Disney cancelled tonight show because they trying to push own shows. If you need to be right.. Don’t blanten lie.
Yes, don’t cancel the show…. I know it’s a slow go. But every time I watch it its more funnier than the last. I think people need to give the show a chance and the writers have to make it more enjoyable for all ages. My 3 yr old loves animal the most. But also loves the other characters. The bar sceen was Great! Sometimes I think that writers need to bring back old scenes, but an up to date version. There’s so much potential in this show and could go along ways if writers just be more creative and… Read more »
PLEASE don’t cancel it! I really love this show! I loved the 70s-80s show and now I love this one. It’s like they grew up right along with me. If ABC is so cold-hearted to cancel, please somebody like Netflix or Hulu pick it up.
This Muppet show is great. Is it for younger children? No, but what show in prime time is? Look at the other network shows normally in the 8pm time slot and give me an example of one that is. The likely reason the show is advertised on the Disney Channel is because they know parents watch the channel with their children and can use it as a way to tell them about the show. I’m 28, pretty much in the middle of the coveted 18-49 age bracket, and this is a show that I watch every week. By the way,… Read more »
There is no doubt in my mind that the Muppet Show needs to stick around. This show is a ‘win/win’ no matter how you look at it. Brilliant adaptation to modern times. Very funny. Each show has a message, maybe corny to some , but refreshing, I think. Most importantly, NO violence.
Do not cancel the muppets! It is one of those shows that will catch on the longer you leave it on the air. Do more marketing. One of the best shows I have seen in years!
Please renew the Muppets!!! We watch every week with our 3 year old who is a big fan. And we love it even more than he does. Clever writing and tons of laughs. Great family tv!
I muppets when I was a little girl I’m now 37 years old and I love the show now. I watch it and get my laugh on so please don’t take off the air. It’s the Muppets how I remember them.
I love this show as well. It hit the mark for those of us who watched the Muppets as kids and are now in our 40’s. The transition to a more adult based humor is going well. Plus, I did get all teary when Kermit sang “rainbow”. I did not expect that. It has the humor, the life lessons and the poignant moments of the original show.
Love this show! Great touch having Kermit singing Rainbow

If This Wasn’t The Muppet’s This Show Would Of Been Cancelled By Now The Ratings Are In The Toilet Having The Show Like The Mix Of The Office And A Real Late Night Show Is Killing The Muppet’s If You Ask Me I Don’t See A Second Season Unless They Scrap Everything An Try Something Else And Not Have Miss Piggy The Main Focus Of The Show But The People At ABC Just Cant Understand This Is A Flop And They Need To Do Something About This Or Its Going To Be A Long Time Before We See The Muppet’s… Read more »
The old format was great. The 70’s variety show format allowed puppeteers to showcase any creative idea they had. That’s what’s missing. It’s like you have an MC show up at commercials and he’s funny and charming, but they you give the MC his own sitcom and the schtick just gets old. We need Jaberwocky, half way up, Mnamana, Gonzo doing stunts, I’m just wild about Harry, and so much more.
