While Mr. Selfridge has supposedly been renewed, BBC1 has pulled the plug on The Paradise. There won’t be a third season for the period drama.
The Paradise revolves around the people who work and shop at the first English department store. Set in 1875, castmembers have included Emun Elliott, Joanna Vanderham, Elaine Cassidy, Sarah Lancashire, Matthew McNulty, Peter Wight, David Hayman, Stephen Wight, Sonya Cassidy, Ruby Bentall, Finn Burridge, and Patrick Malahide.
Of the cancellation, a BBC spokesperson said, “We are incredibly proud to have made two successful series of period drama The Paradise for BBC1. However, in order to make room for new dramas to come through, The Paradise won’t be returning.”
The show airs on PBS here in the US and only the first season has been shown. That ended in November and there’s been no word of airing the second season yet.

It’s such a shame that the show got cancelled. We are seriously lacking in quality television, and it is probable that it’s replacement won’t have the same content. Period dramas take us back to a time when people had manners and spoke well. Their values were different to ours today and we could do more to remind ourselves of that age. Modern day living sometimes isolates people and they don’t develop social skills and interaction with people, I find that by watching shows like The Paradise I learn how to be graceful and polite and how to be more sociable.
GUTTED the BBC have cancelled this excellent period drama ! Such a beautiful story which has been left without a proper conclusion. We need a series 3 if nothing else. Which they would reconsider

Please don’t cancel The Paradise! It is such a lovely series, we have nothing like it in the U.S. and rely UK to provide this kind of quality! Couldn’t get into Selfridge’s, I tried, but the cast chemistry and storyline just doesn’t compare. Please reconsider.

I loved Paradise, please reconsider bringing it back. It’s a quality program and one of the few my husband would watch with me. Its so much more interesting then Mr Selfridge. Which was good, but the characters on The Paradise are so much more enjoyable. Please, please bring it back. Thank you
I am disgusted by the cancelling of The Paradise! The BBC gives an extremely thin reason for this & claims the viewing numbers dropped dramatically from season 1 to season 2…well from what I’ve read in the articles about this, the 1st season drew in about 6 million viewers, while season 2 drew in a little over 5 million. I so agree with you Donna. I’d like to know if, perhaps, one of the leads wanted out of the show; that would make a difference. I loved this show and am so anxious to see how our couple worked out.
We love Paradise!! Please bring it back. We love Selfridge also – glad that’s been renewed. Please reconsider Paradise – a spectacular program.
I am extremely disappointed to see this truly wonderful show end. I have been wanting to see Season 2 for months now and hope it is shown here in the USA as soon as possible. Emun Elliott is such a pleasure to watch !
I’m not surprised. I read the book recently and they have changed the story so much that it is almost a different story. I liked the series until I read the book, but had already decided that I might or might not watch another season.
I loved The Paradise and I know a lot of other people did, please reconsider and show us more.
My daughter and I love The Paradise and are crushed that it has been cancelled. I am a huge Jeremy Piven fan but was bored by Mr. Selfridge and am so disappointed that it was continued instead of The Paradise!

I loved this show so much that I bought the DVD and soundtrack as soon as I possibly could. I’ve seen clips from Season 2 and have anxiously been waiting for it to be shown here in the States. PLEASE let us see it! It’s bad enough that no more seasons will be made but PLEASE let us see Season 2!!!!
