While Mr. Selfridge has supposedly been renewed, BBC1 has pulled the plug on The Paradise. There won’t be a third season for the period drama.
The Paradise revolves around the people who work and shop at the first English department store. Set in 1875, castmembers have included Emun Elliott, Joanna Vanderham, Elaine Cassidy, Sarah Lancashire, Matthew McNulty, Peter Wight, David Hayman, Stephen Wight, Sonya Cassidy, Ruby Bentall, Finn Burridge, and Patrick Malahide.
Of the cancellation, a BBC spokesperson said, “We are incredibly proud to have made two successful series of period drama The Paradise for BBC1. However, in order to make room for new dramas to come through, The Paradise won’t be returning.”
The show airs on PBS here in the US and only the first season has been shown. That ended in November and there’s been no word of airing the second season yet.

The Paradise is an AWESOME tv show! I completely agree with so many of the previous posts about this show. Great characters, great writing, great acting… Additionally, this is a show I can watch and not be fearful that its inappropriate if my young child is in the room while it’s on. I just finished watching the last episode of Season 2 and that was definitely NO WAY to let down faithful viewers and lovers of this show. Please reconsider the cancellation of The Paradise. It’s an entertaining show and our household enjoys it very much. Please please, reinstate it… we need more shows like it……
I love that series. It is sweet and relaxing. It should not be compared to Mr. Selfridge, which is also excellent. I am very disappointed there won’t be a Series 3. There should be more period TV series. I hope it will be reconsidered.
I have only watched Season 1 & have been thoroughly entertained & captivated! Cannot imagine why you would cancel such a well done series! Please reconsider as ‘the show must go on’ !!!
I watched season 2 on the PBS app and was very disappointed to hear that there will be no season 3. I like it, my friends like it, and others are just discovering it. Please reconsider.
Please reconsider to not cancel The Paradise. The show gets better each week in the second season. The Selfridge tv series was good until I read the Bio about Mr Selfridge and now the show is very disappointing and I stopped watching.
Please, PLEASE do NOT cancel this show after the 2nd season! I have found it interesting, a great escape for an hour at a time, and the characters are wonderful. I have only the final episode of Season 2 left and I cannot believe you can wrap it all up in 1 final show. Let us down gently….one more season please!

Just finished watching season one of the Paradise. Thoroughly LOVED IT!!!! GREAT CHARACTERS.. GREAT STORY…GREAT ACTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY WAS IT CANCELLED?????????????? WOULD LOVE TO SEE SEASON 2…BUT HOPE IT HAS CLOSURE, AN ENDING….A HAPPY ENDING WOULD BE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
There is a season 2. I just finished watching the finale of Season 2 on PBS Masterpiece Classic. The same channel as Downton Abbey. But Season 2 is it for The Paradise. The ending was such that a Season 3 would have been possible. But I am 99.9% sure it’s done. Would take a HUGE fan tsunami of support for even a glimmer of hope. I’m watching a fan campaign to bring back the series Dallas. Even letter writing, phone calls, and massive Facebook and Twitter will probably not bring it back.
