NBC recently unveiled a new mini-series on Thursday nights — The Slap. How’s the show been performing? Is it a big enough success that the network will want to make a second season somehow or, is it a bomb that should be pulled off the schedule?
On The Slap TV show, a birthday celebration comes to an abrupt halt when a man slaps another couple’s misbehaving child. It’s a small action that ends up deeply affecting all involved. The cast for the mini-series includes Peter Sarsgaard, Thandie Newton, Uma Thurman, Makenzie Leigh, Zachary Quinto, Dylan Schombing, Thomas Sadoski, Melissa George, Brian Cox, Lucas Hedges, Maria Tucci, Marin Ireland, and Penn Badgley.
The eight-episode series debuted on February 12th to a very disappointing 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 5.13 million viewers. Things got even worse in week two with the numbers falling more than 20%. Last week, the ratings dropped again, falling to a disastrous 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demo with 3.67 million viewers.
It’s clear that The Slap is a big “miss” for NBC and, more importantly, it’s not giving The Blacklist any lead-in support in its new Thursdays at 9pm timeslot.
After tonight’s installment, the network will have four episodes left. While NBC will no doubt let viewers see the remaining episodes, it seems highly unlikely that they’ll leave it in its Thursday night timeslot much longer. A Saturday night burn-off or online release appears to be the most likely scenario.
3/6 update: NBC has cancelled Allegiance and shifted The Slap to the Thursdays at 10pm timeslot for the remainder of its four week run.
4/3 update: NBC has confirmed that The Slap has ended with eight episodes.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Slap? Do you think the network should keep airing it or pull the series prematurely? Why do you think it hasn’t caught on?
I love this show! Please don’t cancel!!
Its a mini series not a regular series.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if people even realize what they are watching. All the comments about not canceling or a second season make no sense. How can someone start watching a show without knowing if it is a potential multi-season show, a one season show, or a limited (mini) series? This show was never more than the 8 episodes. It is not about canceling or renewing. If anything, it is a matter of whether or not NBC would air all 8 episodes. It is a good show for a short season. People should calm down.
I agree. This is like asking for a sequel to a movie. When the decision is made in court – the end. I just hope that the team of writers come up with another good story for 8 more eps. It was done well. But, I dont think I would want it to run any longer.
Love this show! The characters are great and I see potential for more stories to develop based on events that have happened in the show. Please keep this show!!!
Oh, I forgot to say I think this bit of melodramatic garbage needs to be canceled. It DRAGS SLOWER THAN A SNAIL It also lacks relevance and potency and power. If it is renewed it needs to be rewritten, dropping Connie, picking up the pace, giving it more power and relevancy. At this point I only want to see it to hear the verdict. My verdict? I will not watch it for a second season.
I have been watching the total train wreck of a show. I just want to see Rosie and her monster child (appropriately named Hugo) get her ass humiliated and kickrd in court. Each episode drags at a pace seriously slower than a snail. The character of Connie is unnecessary and irrelevant. Rosie is melodramatic and blowing the whole event out of proportion. Yes, the guy was wrong to slap a child not his and he is an abusive bully but the real parents are molly coddling nut jobs and the mother should have her head examined for still breast feeding… Read more »
i think ” THE SLAP”. Opens up the conversation of the past and the future of how to raise your children and where does it end. It makes us think before doing or DOING before thinking and the reprocussions and damages of family, employment, and above all respect of society. I want to watch the journey!!! Give it 1 more season
My wife and I love the Slap. It’s a terrific show. Concentrating on a single different character each week while at the same time propelling the central story along is a great approach. I really enjoyed tonight’s (3/19) show.
I like the show. It’s different and I’m never borked.breast feeding a 5 year old is a problem in itself.shes a nut.
Keep it!! Story is compelling! Great characters!!!
Please don’t cancel this show….LOVE IT!!!!

It is a very interesting, compelling show with a good premise and well-developed characters.
I caught just the 3rd episode by mistake, or because I was channel surfing, and I got hooked ! I hope to follow it to a conclusion. Interesting characters and premise. Nice to see something innovative on a network.
Well written and thought provoking. Love it
I saw the first episode by accident. Scrolling through a tv menu of same ole same ole, I see “The Slap.” OK, nothing else fills my entertainment needs, let’s see what this is! I had seen no promo and thought it might even be some kind of one night special. I was instantly happy with the way a story began to unfold, characters and relationships began to emerge. I love to read because a good book allows you to know what each character is thinking, this show was allowing me the same privilege. By the end I was excited for… Read more »
