NBC has evicted one of its newest drama series. The network has cancelled The Village TV show so there won’t be a second season.
The Village stars Warren Christie, Michaela McManus, Lorraine Toussaint, Frankie Faison, Jerod Haynes, Dominic Chianese, Darren Kagasoff, Grace Van Dien, and Moran Atias. The story centers on the residents of a Brooklyn apartment building. While it looks the same as countless others from the outside, what goes on inside is rare, to say the least. Everyone at the Village has a story to tell, be it about their hopes and dreams, or the challenges they’re facing. Together, they’re a family and family means everything — even when you are not related.
The first season of The Village averaged a 0.66 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.12 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 21st.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, The Village ranks 13th in the demo and ninth in viewership. The series saw a momentary bump in the ratings ratings when NBC moved it an earlier timeslot but it didn’t last and the numbers soon hit new lows.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Enemy Within and Abby’s TV shows.
What do you think? Do you like The Village TV show? Are you sorry that it’s been cancelled. Would you have watched season two on NBC?
This really breaks my heart. I loved that show! People really need to give a series more than one season to succeed.
NBC has a knack for cancelling excellent shows. Shame on you! With so may different outlets and stations your demand for high ratings is ridiculous. Give it a chance. Listen to the viewers and stop paying people so much money to make decisions on shows they dont even watch. The village is a great show in a world of crappy reality TV. Hopefully another network will be smarter than NBC and pick it up.
The Village was the best show we watched. We loved the character development and realistic storyline. Always looked forward to the next episode. Crushed this is cancelled….best program on NBC. Please reconsider!!
Please don’t cancel The Village. It is a story about life and love. We need more shows like this. I watch it on demand. I am so hooked ! Most of the crap on tv is depressing and your show gives us hope for life. And yes I know it has normal turmoil but that’s life, isn’t it? Please put it back on. We could use about 20 years of this fantastic show.
I am incredibly disappointed in the cancellation of this excellent show. I can’t believe that we ( my husband liked it too) won’t find out what happened after the season finale. It certainly wasn’t helped by the fact that they changed the time slot three times in its first season!!!
It was a pleasure to watch something that wasn’t crime or medical.
Please rethink your decision.
That is the worst news ever! My family absolutely love that show! Your mistake was putting it on at 8:00 when parents are still putting their kids to sleep, doing homework with their kids and finishing up dinner. Had you put it on at 9:00 your ratings would go up tremendously! That show was real, raw, tender, sweet, filled with love and real life experiences. The characters were amazing and so many of us that watch the show feel like they did such an excellent job of casting for the characters on the show. I am so disappointed in your… Read more »
The Village was the best program on NBC thus season. Character development, storyline, thematic elements, music, directing were outstanding. The decision to cancel such an excellent program is why so many viewers have left mainstream tv networks and go to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, etc. The reality shows that NBC has decided to renew reflect the poor decision making of the Network. Not sure what audience they are trying to attract, but definitely not one interested in quality programming. So disappointed The Village was canceled. I actually had enjoyed this program even more than This is Us.
The Village was a wonderfully written show about real life problems and intricate relationships. I am very frustrated and sad that it was canceled and there will be no second season. As a frequent TV watcher it was refreshing to not be another police, hospital or reality show. It was in a category of its own. A great addition!! PLEASE BRING IT BACK I need to see how the stories evolve.
Also very disappointed. I didn’t start watching the village when it first premiered because it was opposite another show I had been watching. But then I binged watched the episodes I had missed until caught up. Couldn’t wait for the next week’s episode to come on. Was so anticipating the second season.
Wholesome, true to life .and Not another medical, crime, reality or dumb sit com show..
Please bring it back
The Village is worth keeping! Great characters and a breath of fresh air as its themes are caring and hope. Not a wise choice to cancel.
I really loved The Village and The Enemy Within. I also agree that all the good shows are being cancelled and the scripted reality shows are not. This is very frustrating. This is why it is hard to watch TV these days.
Networks don’t give a show a fair shot any more. All they want to do is reboot old series. Bring back The Village it is a great show.
I loved that show. Looked forward to watching every week. I know for some that it was a slow start for them, meaning that it was 4 episodes or more before they could really get into it but I’m really upset they cancelled. I was looking forward to season 2 and wondering about the baby Cooper.
Really upset that they cancelled this show. My whole family was into it. The characters were real people and the show touched on some of the current problems in todays society. Why was it dropped? Is there a good reason? NBC you have me pissed off.
I would have liked to see how this series evolved, especially the daughter’s story line. I think the issue here was NBC expected this to be another This Is Us and when it did not attract an enormous audience the network simply dropped it and moved on. It seems networks have adopted a philosophy of instant gratification when making decisions on which shows to cancel or extend.
