To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

Enjoyed the show not much interested in the reality shows. Gonna miss it.
Good show but it really needed more insight into the characters and their lives apart from the hospital. It seemed as if they lived in a bubble; never living apart from their jobs.
What were they thinking? Another good show pulled!
I am so disappointed about the cancelling of THREE RIVERS. It is the only true-to-life medical series that shows hope and generosity to those of us who face these types of situations. It is a wonderful series with a powerful message concerning organ donation. Many of the episodes were so heart-warming that I cried. Please consider keeping this series on the air. Not many people had the chance to see it and I know that if it were advertised more, it would be watched. America needs to see this kind of programing about down-to-earth situations. It was definitely a quality… Read more »
I totally agree with you. One of the top best shows this season. Keep it on please!
There goes another quality show.
Loved the show, but constantly starting late was annoying! They need to put it back on another night maybe a mid season show. Hope they atleast finish the season!
I thought the show was great and very well produced unlike another new medical show still running on NBC. I’d be saddened to see it go.
LOVED THAT SHOW!!!!
CBS, you need to put MOONLIGHT back on. Big mistake taking that show off the air!
I think NFL is to blame. It always ran over and caused it to come on too late. Sunday night shows suffer due to sports. Move sports to ESPN.
BOOO!!! CBS
I loved the show, and watched it every week. Starting late was annoying it, but I usually recorded it to avoid this. It seems like all the good ones get cancelled.
I love Alex O’Laughlin he is a super hotty. I think the show would have done better on a different night at a different time. Most of the time the show was delayed due to the Amazing race running over. I hope they put it back on the air.
I think that the football schedule hurt it. I would set it to tape and then miss 1/2 of the show. As soon as I started taping 2 hours to make sure that I got the show it seemed that they removed it from the air. I hope they find a better timeslot and then put it back on the air – I liked the show.
Why can’t Alex O’Loughlin keep a show…he was WOW in Moonlight and also in Three Rivers… He is a fabuous actor, and never given the chance to show it. Someone PLEASE get a show for him so that we can watch him longer…These shows are like a tease..you dangle this gorgeous man in front of us and then yank him away…His acting is so real….just love him….In moonlight , I was signing up for a neck bite….Oh just the thought!!!!
