O! for a time machine. Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan’s Timeless TV show has been cancelled after one short season on NBC.
A time travel drama, Timeless stars Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, and Goran Visnjic. The NBC cast also includes Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit.
Timeless begins as a mysterious criminal (Visnjic), steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine to use in his attempt to destroy the US. The nation’s best hope lies in the unlikely team made up of a history professor (Spencer), a soldier (Lanter), and a scientist (Barrett).
Timeless: A Look at the Ratings
Season one of Timeless averaged a 1.10 rating in the 18-49 demographic and a average total audience of 4.62 million viewers. When compared to other NBC TV shows the cancellation makes sense. Reportedly, a lot of viewers watching on-line, On Demand, and on DVR delay, but ultimately, the network has to sell ad time, and advertisers like Live + Same Day viewing.
While the Timeless cancellation has not been posted to the NBC-U press site, Deadline has confirmed it.
What do you think? Did you watch the Timeless TV series? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed it for a second season? Sound off, in the comments.
5/13/17 update: NBC has reversed their decision and has renewed Timeless for a second season. Details here.
1/22/18 update: NBC has revealed the season two premiere date for Timeless. Details here.
I WANT TIMELESS TV SHOW ON NBC BACK ON PLEASE ITS A GREAT SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!!!!!
Well that Sux! They just renewed Taken which had lower US ratings than Timeless but did just a bit better overseas. Makes no sense to me. What a loss of adventure & good acting & clever writing. I really enjoyed it. Too Bad.
I really am sick of all the good shows being cancelled and replaced with garbage. Once again, I have to find another show to get into. Shame on you ABC, again.
How can “Timeless” be cancelled? One of the few quality shows on NBC. I guess it just took to much intelligence and imagination for people to watch a show like this. Not watch NBC anymore.
Noooooooo!!! Another good show bites the dust… At this rate all we’ll be left with is stupid reality TV
Huge mistake for NBC cancelling Timeless. It was an awesome time traveling thrill ride from start to finish.
There should be a petition to keep the show on . Come on , ratings could pick up on season 2 like super girl did .
You cannot do this for cancellation madness! Timeless is one of my Time travel series, if you cannot put back Timeless, let other show networks take it!
What a pity. This show was both entertaining and educational. I was inspired by this show to read “The Devil in White City”. I really, really looked forward to each week’s episode. Was the problem with this show that it may have appealed to an older viewer? Enough! Simply too bad.
I actually thought that it might come back This could be on another network or cable station next season. Stay Tuned.
Guess you were wrong
This was a GREAT show and I loved the history part. I’m super you have to keep crap reality shows but something worth watching you keep canceling!
That’s three time travel shows in three days! What are they going to cancel tomorrow, “Making History”?
I can’t believe another good show has been cancelled!! I always enjoyed the episodes and it was great. Please stop this insanity and keep good programs on!!
I am very disappointed that NBC cancelled ” Timeless”. I would rather show like this one than those reality shows. Please NBC reconsider your decision and renew “Timeless” it deserves more than 1 season.
Terribly disappointed – The lawsuit was not mentioned. If they truly cancelled due to ratings – that sucks. People don’t watch TV like they used to. We would faithfully watch on Monday nights, but sometimes we would miss it, and watch later on demand. And it’s easier to watch on demand – not nearly as many commercials. Timeless was a great show – one of the best on network television.
Here we go again NBC and another great show gets cancelled. It had acceptable numbers with 1.1 18-49 (among those who can’t afford to buy anything the networks insist on pursuing) so why shouldn’t they also cancel it with nearly 5 million viewers. Why not run all reality shows NBC so we can get NBC removed from our cable and satellite selections all together and save a buck or two there.
