Tommy won’t be back on patrol next season. CBS just announced that the network has cancelled the cop drama and won’t be ordering a second season for the 2020-21 broadcast season.
The Tommy series revolves around a former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female chief of police for Los Angeles. Abigail “Tommy” Thomas (Edie Falco) uses unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political, and national security issues from hindering effective law enforcement in the Southland. The CBS drama also stars Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, Thomas Sadoski, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip, Joseph Lyle Taylor, and Vladimir Caamaño.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Tommy averages a 0.49 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise as the drama is the network’s lowest-rated scripted series.
The 12th and final installment of Tommy airs tomorrow night.
What do you think? Do you watch Tommy? Would you have watched season two on CBS?
I loved the show and was very much looking forward to a 2nd season. Why is it that good shows with STRONG female leads get cut? BRING IT BACK!!!
I am very disappointed to hear that CBS is cancelling Tommy after only one season. It was a favorite and that’s what happens. Hardly given a fair chance. Good stories and a strong female in the lead. Edie Falco is an excellent actress and CBS should rethink its choice to cancel
CBS needs to reconsider the cancellation of the show Tommy. I have watched from the beginning & find Edie Falco & cast most enjoyable & one of the few good shows on the air. Let’s give them a chance to grow a following. C’mon CBS this show is definitely worth saving.
Well, Tommy was the only new program this year that was not an insult to my intelligence. Bad decision CBS.
I loved Tommy & was hoping for a longer 1st season and a second season. Sometimes I feel that my liking a show is a kiss of death for it.
I really like this show and it shows that a woman can hold a job normally held by a man. The Tommy character is a good role model for women young and old. I think the world is ready. If you cancel it, you’re giving out the wrong message.
Of course it’s been cancelled! That’s what happens to new shows that are good and worth saving for at least a second season to see if ratings improve. Very disappointed. Really enjoyed the show and wish that it was returning. Not sure where these ratings are gathered from but think they may be swayed in the wrong direction. Watched the entire season and thought it was a very good show. Hopefully others will reply the same and possibly will get renewed.
I loved Tommy. Please bring it back. Only show I really looked forward to all week. I am so sad and upset now. They leave bad shows on and take away Edie Falco?! What’s wrong with you all??
Tommy was one of my favorite shows this season. Please reconsidered your decision to cancel. I need to know how the mayor works out his issues.
I really wish Tommy was staying! I really enjoyed the show and looked forward to each new episode.
I wish Tommy was staying! I really enjoyed watching the show and looked forward each week to the next episode.
I can’t believe it! This is one of the better shows… but they keep Survivor on? I’m done with CBS.
Why was Tommy cancelled, it was a very good show?
My husband and I watch Tommy every week and are disappointed to hear CBS has cancelled it. Edie Falco is excellent and believable as a strong woman in the role of Police Chief. I hope CBS will reconsider and start production on season 2.
I haven’t missed an episode of Tommy since it started. I think CBS is crazy to cancel this show, making one of the biggest mistakes it could ever make! Take a look at other shows if you’re needing to drop the ax, but not Tommy! The entire cast is great, melding together like no other cast members I’ve seen in shows in recent years. Edie Falco is an amazing actress and plays her role superbly. I’m sure no one at CBS listens to or cares what viewers think, but it’s really disappointing to know that you’re even considering the cancellation… Read more »
