Tommy won’t be back on patrol next season. CBS just announced that the network has cancelled the cop drama and won’t be ordering a second season for the 2020-21 broadcast season.
The Tommy series revolves around a former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female chief of police for Los Angeles. Abigail “Tommy” Thomas (Edie Falco) uses unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political, and national security issues from hindering effective law enforcement in the Southland. The CBS drama also stars Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, Thomas Sadoski, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip, Joseph Lyle Taylor, and Vladimir Caamaño.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Tommy averages a 0.49 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise as the drama is the network’s lowest-rated scripted series.
The 12th and final installment of Tommy airs tomorrow night.
What do you think? Do you watch Tommy? Would you have watched season two on CBS?
Another good show cancelled, why? CBS keep this up and you will not have many good shows left to cancel.
Tommy is one of the best dramas on any channel. Who makes the decisions to cancel? They don’t know good viewing when it bites them in the rear. Please reconsider keeping Tommy.
We enjoy Tommy very much. Sad to see it’s not being renewed, hope they change their minds.
Best cop show in a long time. Guess it costs too much to make as compared to all the networks mindless crap reality shows.
Thank goodness for Netflix and Amazon. Otherwise there would be no thought provoking dramas at all. Makes me move one more step closer to abandoning all network cable TV and move closer to services that have actual content!
Yes I would have watched season 2
Season 2! Season 2! Season 2! Season 2! Need I say more other than I can’t fathom that CBS didn’t give the show time to grow (not that it needed it though apparently ratings wise it did). Or, as many others have said, move the time slot. SHAME on CBS. I’m getting ready to divorce the network altogether.
Oh no, I love this show. How can they cancel it? It’s one of the best shows on the tv!
I loved this show! Why would you cancel it? I never watch live TV, but I pay for commercial free TV. Did you take customers like me into consideration?? Doesn’t seem like it…
I am really tired of getting vested in TV shows and having them arbitrarily canceled because my age group doesn’t count. Don’t count on us in the future. Not watching your new shows in the future! I can watch all the old shows and be content. Loved Tommy..Edie Falco and cast did a fantastic job. Here’s rooting another channel will have the intelligence to pick you up..because I’ll be in the wings waiting! Linda
Please don’t cancel this show!! It is one of the few good dramas left on network television! Someone else please pick this up!!
Tommy, another great addition to my tv viewing, cancelled! Why? So that mega channels like CBS can open up space for garbage fluff programming like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and all other endless brain numbing crap! No wonder Netflix and the like are quickly getting the upper hand! I’ll be going the same way! Sad!
love this show.
i love love love this show!!!!!!!!!!!
i loved this show!!!!!!!!!!!! please give it another chance, maybe different time slot or different day, but i love this show
Some genius made a huge mistake cancelling “Tommy.” This show was intelligent, honest, thought provoking and featured a great cast. And speaking of the cast. Surely you realize that it takes more than a few episodes for viewers to get to know a cast and understand the dynamics between the characters. At least give it one more season and then let the numbers fall where they may. One question: You cancelled “Tommy” and kept “MacGuyver?” You do realize not everyone is a twenty something . . . . right?! ‘Nuff said!
Mattie, I agree with you. Tommy was not perfect but was developing. I stopped watching MacGyver a long time ago…got too silly and had no drama at all. Tommy had “real” characters, Mac devolved into mush.
Please renew Tommy. The show has drama and twists and turns and fantastic acting. I blame the promos for not getting people to watch. The first episode was so-so, too. But– after that, you are hooked! The last episode makes you tear up and then makes you cheer like at a Superbowl. Please give this another chance! You can tell that there is so much to come in future story lines! Please tell us about the Mayor! Blake! We want more! PLEASE!
