While we knew this cancellation was coming, it’s still a sad subject to address. The Training Day TV show has been cancelled. There will be no season two of the CBS police drama.
Taking place years after the 2001 Denzel Washington feature film, the Training Day TV series stars Bill Paxton as Detective Frank Rourke and Justin Cornwell as Kyle Craig. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
This cancellation was all but certain, since the untimely death of 61 year old Bill Paxton, on February 25th. But had that tragedy not occurred, it was still looking unlikely that Training Day would have been renewed for season two.
Training Day: A Look at the Ratings
The show premiered with a disappointing 0.88 in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and drew a total audience of 4.73 million. Training Day‘s trajectory has been largely downhill since then. After six weeks of poor ratings on Thursday nights, CBS shuffled Training Day to Saturdays where the numbers naturally got a lot worse.
Overall, the first season has averaged a 0.54 in the demo and 3.47 million viewers. The series finale is slated for May 20th.
Compare how Training Day stacks up against other CBS TV shows, and it doesn’t take a detective to figure out why the network cancelled this show. Still, had the series maintained its premiere ratings, this cancellation would likely still have come to pass.
What do you think? Did you watch the first and only season of Training Day? Would you have continued to watch it without Bill Paxton? Should CBS have cancelled or renewed the TV series for a second season?
LOVE THIS SHOW!! WILL MISS IT! SO SAD ABOUT BILL PAXTON..RIP
Yes I watch the show and it’s too bad there won’t be a Season 2, but it wouldn’t be the same without Bill anyway
It was all about the untimely death of Bill Paxton, who I really liked as an actor), also putting it on Saturday didn’t help it any. I will miss the show thought it was ecxcellent.
I think it was all about the untimely death of Bill Paxton, it was a excellent show, but putting it on Sat. also hurt it.
I loved watching training day> Looked forward too it . Sat night surely killed ratings. Big fan of Bill Paxton and his untimely death came as a shock. He was definately the star. Yes, would have given show a chance without Bill Paxton but he would be a large character to replace.
It was sad about Bill. But moving the show to Sat. really killed it. It was a great show with him.
I enjoyed season 1 and was hoping it would return for a second season but unfortunately its not coming back.
Was very upset when bill died. Now very upset it was cancelled. I think Jeffrey Donovan could make it t work like burn notice.
I love this show I’m very sad to see it go I would definitely love for them to find a way to continue it
It should have been continued. I enjoyed the series. Please fnd a way to bring it back.
I love the show. It’s so sad that the lead actor passed away so young. But I think they could have written in his death and taken the show in a slightly different direction. Sorry to see it go, really.
I Love the show. I would watch another season. I loved Bill Paxton’s roll in it Would be hard to replace him. But I loved the show.
Training Day is one of my favorite shows. I loved Paxton, but thought they could find a replacement that would work. My husband and I would love a second season.
Thought Training day was great! Despite Bill Paxton’s death (great actor & human being), really desired a 2nd season. But no getting 11th season of Big Bang instead. Sucks! Vote for a 2nd season!
UNFORTUNATELY Bill Paxton passed away. I loved this show. Watch it every wk.
I’m sorry for the loss of Bill P. I do wish they would give it a second season.
