Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I think that nbc is a retarted station if they really cancelled trauma it is a show worth to stay up and watch…Yall sould really put it back on because its a good role model show. Really consider to put it back on please!!
being an EMT i really got my emotions up high everytime i watch this series.it’s so frustrating that they are canceling the SHOW.trauma is a show that inspires all the emt’s here in asia.PLEASE BRING BACK TRAUMA!!!
I though this show was horrible the first episode. Unrealistic at best, but then I actually got into the characters. This is what made me watch every week. Good medical shows are hard to find. And now it is being cancelled. Sad. I was beginning to like it. The other programs out there are stupid. Nurse Jackie. PLEASE. Her ass would be fired within the first week. Disgusting potrayal of nurses. Trauma was interesting even though not true to life. Too bad.
Finally, a show worth watching and they take it off the air. People need to know who the real heroes in America are. When I was a kid I wouldn’t be caught dead missing an episode of Emergency.
Thank God it’s gone. It was poorly scripted, poorly acted and it’s portrayal of EMS professionals was at best unprofessional. Quite frankly it was nothing more than a daytime soap with explosions and redlights. NBC should be embarrassed they ever even considered this show.
I AM DEFINATELY UPSET THAT TRAUMA HAS BEEN CANCELED, THIS WAS ONE OF THE GOOD CLEAN SHOWS I COULD WATCH WITH MY TEENAGERS….. WHY NOT CANCEL JAY LENO ON PRIMETIME?
Trauma was awesome! I wasn’t sure about the show after watching the premier, but my wife and I really got in to the reality of the show. We DVRed all the episodes and have watched them two or three times. I hope NBC will realize they made a mistake and reair this show.
Extremely disappointed! This show had some new talented actors and actresses! It kept me on the edge of my seat while I watched! Great show, that I looked forward to watching every week! Come back!
I LOVE Trauma!!! This was an awesome show! Even better than Mercy, and I like Mercy 🙁
I am so sick of all these reality shows. They really need to give let REAL series have a chance.
I think NBC is insane for canceling Trauma. Maybe NBC should have tried to put it on another night first to see if it would do any better before giving up on it entirely. Every TV network puts a majority of the shows on Monday nights (not to mention Monday Night Football). I feel that if they tried it on a less insane night, that it might have actually done better. I had to catch it on Hulu or on the on demand channel because of conflict with other shows, such as House. I really enjoyed how action packed and… Read more »
I loved this show. I kept turning the channel to look for it each week and another stupid show was in it’s place. I hate getting attatched to a show then having it cancelled. Can’t wait to see the remaining shows that were ordered or filmed. Probably will record them now.
This was the best show (except ER)ever then you guys just take it off boom its over thats why Im going to quit watching anything on NBC every time you have a good family show it never stays on if the viewers want to watch trash they should watch HBO or MAX
I looked forward to it every week. I thought it was a great show. I even had it set to DVR and I only do that with one other show. NBC is making a mistake if you ask me.
This is my second comment. I thought about what was said on the web site that Trauma was cancelled because NBC thought 2 medical shows would be one too many. How about Law and Order, Law & Order SVU, Law and Order Criminal Intent. then theres all those CSI’s, two NCIS”s, a different network but you get what I mean. Why are two medical shows one too many? Then there are shows that whomever decides what viewers like say are doing well. Many times they are doing well because there is nothing else on to watch so they get the… Read more »
I think you guys stink you;s always tke the good shows away it actually shows life stories that can happen in this wouls but instead alot of the false shos that dont make sence in the would all stay
