Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

NBC what is that? That’s what people r going to be saying in the future if they keep taking all the best shows of the air. Very bad decision!!
i cant belive u toke this show off i loved. this show with everthng it was really life on here..i think u need to bring it back..
they always manage to cancel the good shows, it’s like the best show. I love, they shouldnt have cancelled it.
I’m pissed! How dare you? No wonder your network is going down. You should have cancelled Mercy. It sucks and its corny. Who makes these decisions? They should be fired!!!
I was late jumping on the Trauma bandwagon – but it was actually the show I was most looking forward to seeing. I think they were a little too fast to kill it….I was really starting to enjoy the storyline.
I loved this show. I really am upset that they canceled it. Please bring it back !!!
I hate that NBC is canceling this show. This was the best new show on TV in my opinion. It’s what ER used to be.
I loved that show! I am really upset that it is being canceled!! 🙁
i dont know why it was cancelled so early it was of the best new shows i liked
AWWW, this was favorite show of the season. I like the characters, the drama, I love d the chemistry between Nancy & Rabbit…c’mon, bring back my show. Chris Curtis is the hottest new guy to hit television in a long time. I am bummed.
I love this series and I am sick that they canceld it. NBC jumped the gun with is and never gave the series a real chance.
As a paramedic student, I am not sure how i feel about it being cancelled. Im not impressed with how they handle emergency situations or the cockiness of some. On the other hand it was enteraining to watch.
So basically, yes its fake, but people still watch WWF…..
I’m so upset that this so is being turned off!!!! Out of all the shows that r on tv now I think trauma by far is the best and I enjoyed it bc I would like to fallow in those steps when I get older
Trauma is one of the best shows we have watched on NBC. It should be re-aired on a different night and on a different time slot. I think that is what the problem was because there was too many other shows to compete with on Monday night. We had this show set on our receiver to be recorded and was very upset to find that it was canceled. Please bring it back on…PLEASE!! We really looked forward to watching this every week. We miss it=(
I really enjoyed Trauma, it had a great cast, and lots of action. I’m very disappointed that it got the axe! The networks need to keep a good medical show on the air!
