Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

cant believe it is cancelled..Loved it ,,Especially Rabbit and the whole cast..Best of all the medical shows..Even better than Greys annatomy
Really enjoyed the show and collection of cast members. I don’t know why I bother anymore. I’ve worked in Public Safety for the past 27 years. Every time I find a show like this I like, a bunch of Star Bucks shareholders in NYC decide to cancel it!
If you go to yahoo.com, it gives a list of show cancellations and one’s that are being renewed. There are several shows in jeopardy. Part of Trauma’s problem was having a 3 month hiautus.
April 26th was the shows final episode. Too bad loved it.
This high quality show is a regular on our watch list – we really enjoy it. I have encouraged so many of my friends to check it out. We are SO disappointed that this fine show with good stories and an exceptional cast is canceled while so much junk survives.
I’m sad to see this show go. I was hoping when they decided to do more episodes after they announced canceling it that it would stick. I love this show. They’ve just developed the characters and now they take it away, how disappointing.
How do we get a grassroots campaign going to bring this show back. I am thinking a petition with thousands (millions?) of signatures and a pledge to boycott any show that fills the Trauma time slot. I would do whatever work that would be required but I have no clue where to begin. Suggestions? Support? I HATE WHEN BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD SHOWS!!!!!
So disappointe Trauma is canceled. NBC should have given them another chance it was starting to get more viewers. Should have changed the time or day since it was going up against Dancing with Stars. Give them another chance!!!!!
What a shame. This such a great show. I was very disappointed to hear that the network has made this decision and was hoping that this one would stick around a lot longer. I agree with the other posts here and would love to see another network pick up the series. I will be a little hesitant now to get attached to a show. Seems to me everytime something good comes along, they drop it. There are other shows on other networks that don’t deserve any kind of audience…but I have seen it last a few more seasons than it… Read more »
NBC really stinks for cancelling this show! Every Monday night we looked forward to watching Trauma…if there’s away to by pass NBC to maybe another network, it would be great if this show could continue. I think it has to do with advertising, because I’ll bet alot of people didn’t even know about this show. I’ve watched Mercy a couple of times, and I wasn’t real impressed with it. Trauma was great because the story lines kept you there, I loved the interaction with the characters. Shame on you NBC for leaving us all hanging with the last episode, what… Read more »
There is a way to get shows brought back from the dead, so to speak, and with this many voices, casting an angry voice, one of us needs to research this a little more and find out how we can put pressure on the network, be it boycott any and all shows on NBC or what….I would certainly be the first in line. Besides, I knew Glenn and Nancy would connect….just not for long…business and business/pleasure have no place together. Let’s start researching.
I am very disappointed Trauma has been canceled, I looked forward to watching it every Monday night. I really loved the characters and the story lines, its a real shame is gone.
This really pisses me off. Finally there is a good medical show on NBC and I looked forward to watching this show every Monday! It’s not the shows fault, they had a great cast and storyline but due to the networks lack of promotion for the show it lacked ratings! I am very upset about this!!
OMG, yes I am going to miss it. I am a medic in the Army so I am a die hard junky for shows like this one.I am also goingTruama is one of my favorite showa I am going to miss it. If there was anything I could do it help the show stay one air I would.
I am very sorry to hear that Trauma is not being picked up for a second season. I think the charachters are much nicer than the ones on Mercy. I can feel for the Trauma charachters , while I have nothing but dislike for the Mercy charachters.
We have watched several episodes and would continue watch. This was in a very busy time slot! Why not try moving it around a little instead of just dropping it. Dumb Dumb
