Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I thought this show was a great show! I dont think it should be cancelled. I watch it every Monday night like clock work. It is one of the better shows out there right now…
The chemistry between the characters was really beginning to click. If House is ever cancelled, Monday night TV will have to be Blockbuster night.
You HAVE to be kidding me!! We looked forward to watching TRAUMA every night.
I think Trauma should come back. You can’t leave us hanging on the Rabbit and Nancy thing. It was and still can be a great show. So bring it back.
Man this sucks! Everytime I get involved in a series I really like it gets canceled. But I expected it, why, because I really liked the show and DVR’d it every week.
The best show !!! and now you decided to cancel the series, come on… what are you thinking about? Please bring it back
Loved the show. Please bring it back.
I loved the show! If NBC doesn’t bring it back, I hope another network will!!!
Loved the show and all the characters — bring it back!!!!!!
Trauma is one of the best TV shows out there. Every monday my family and a group of friends would get together to watch it. It’s a shame that NBC has cancelled this show, NBC has no other good shows to offer, they just lost a few viewers, what a shame.
This is the best show out there to date ,it is action packed, reality driven & explosive drama to date , yes there is to many medical shows but the responders as EMT ‘S are the least appreciated in respect to DOCTORS . I KNOW IT COSTS ALOT TO MAKE BUT THE TIMING IS WRONG TO CANCEL.
THANK YOU FOR TRAUMA IT IS REALITY AT ITS BEST.
i am very sad Trauma is not coming back! I luv a good adrenaline action packed show and Trauma was one of them! i will miss the show!
Really dissapointed it’s cancelled.. Love the show!!
This is a great show why would the network cancel? I guess they like more useless comedy and vulgar lifestyles on air than something real! I love that this show is not just about the love triangles and bull. Its real shows a purpose! Bring it back, and that is huge for a normally non tv watcher!
I have to say that relying soley on television arings is not the best idea with the technology that is currently available to people. I personally do not have a TIVO, so I tend to watch the shows I like on the computer when I miss them. I am still seeng the commercials online (and can’t skip them like if you watch on TIVO) and I know that there are ways to keep track of what websites are accessed and for how long. I understand that television time is at a premium, but why not look at tapping new markets… Read more »
