Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I am SO sad to hear Trauma was cancelled!! It was the best show ever! I hope TBS picks it up!
Trauma is a fabulous show and Mercy sucks. You cancelled the wrong show!!!!!!
Trauma was awesome! NBC sucks. There are many other shows that could have been taken off the air. So mad they have removed Trauma!! The person making this decision doesn’t know what they are talking about and needs to be demoted.
i am very upset that trauma is being cancelled…..i thought the show was doing good
Trauma is a awesome show, great cast and great stories.
LOVED!!!!! the show. Sad to see it go.
I have seen alot of medical shows in my day. For example E.R. or untold stories of the E.R., or best yet rescue 911. I first saw the trailer of Trauma I thought ohh blahh another medical show, but then I watched it, and let me just say I was blown away. The actors and actresses picked, the characters the actors get to play, just everything about the show fits. I have not seen the show Mercy, but I can’t see it being done as well. Even if I am wrong and Mercy is better, that is still no reason… Read more »
How dare you cancel this show. This was a great and exciting show. All characters were great! You never even gave this a chance. This was my favorite!!! I am not happy about this at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to talk to the person that came up with this decision.
NBC is one of my favorite stations. No so much now. There are so many other shows that could have been taken off the air, and you have to choose this one?????????????
I am very disappointed that trauma was cancelled! I feel that it was the best show ever! Mercy should have been the chosen one! And you guys left people hanging forever it is all crazy!
These dweebs at NBC are a piece of work. First they yank the show off the air just as it was having a CHANCE to develop a following. They without precedent they leave the audience in limbo for months, with no explanation or promotion whatsoever. Then out of nowhere they pop back on the air – for a minute. THEN they express disappointment in the ratings? These NBC execs need help, they’re track record this past year is BAD. And wtf happened to the last episode?
I loved Trauma. I think it’s a shame that it’s being canceled. Mercy should have been canceled instead. I think it’s a very bad decision
NBC must rethink this. My husband and I finally agreed on a TV show that we both liked and looked forward each week to watching the show together.
I can’t BELIEVE it !!!!!! Cancel TRAUMA!!!! Our whole family love that show. We hate it when a segment is over and can’t wait until the next week. Please don’t cancel it!! We love the actors and the story lines. The story lines are always exciting and not predictable. Is there someone that we can call or send our e-mails to?? Please notify us via e-mail. Our family is in shock!!
I really hate this station sometimes! I loved watching Trauma on monday nights, it was realistic and very relatable and of course it’s not even given a chance! so thank you NBC for another bull crap decision!!
Okay,
This is our second Monday without Trauma and it is not getting any easier. I surely hope NBC falls flat on its face. Since the cancellation of Trauma, I have stopped watching anything on NBC. Now let’s see what the ratings look like. Whoever is running the show(s), or not, should keep on running.
Love TRAUMA! There are a lot of crime drama shows on TV – I felt we needed a medical show with some crime drama. The preview of shows coming this fall looks a little much on the violent side. No wonder our public is getting criminal thoughts. As a matter of fact I would love to see REBA come back – what a way to begin an evening of TV with some comedy, then TRAUMA with some medical trauma and top it off with something similar to CSI: Miami – a real criminal drama. I know all these shows are… Read more »
