In October, NBC decided not to order any additional episodes of the low-rated series, Trauma, essentially canceling the show after 13 episodes. Then, a few weeks later, NBC ordered three additional installments, likely because they anticipated holes in their spring schedule and the show’s producers were able to significantly cut production costs.
The show’s been off the air since November but the network has now announced that it’s coming back. Is there a chance that the show could actually see a second season?
Taking place in San Francisco, Trauma follows a group of first responders who risk their lives to save others. The cast includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The network recently announced that they were cancelling The Jay Leno Show as of February 12th. That means that, when NBC finishes airing its coverage of the Winter Olympics, the network will have five more hours of primetime to fill. That’s good news for Trauma.

NBC has announced that Trauma will be returning to Monday nights starting on March 8th. They’ve also just ordered three additional episodes, bringing the season total to 20. That means that there are 10 new episodes of Trauma to come.
If the new episodes of Trauma can attract significantly more viewers, the show might have a very good shot at being renewed — especially if the show can continue to be produced economically.
At the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour, Angela Bromstad, NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President, didn’t rule out the show having a future and the new episode order is certainly promising.
However, NBC has plans to beef up their pilot development for next season. The network will develop 10 dramas and eight half-hour comedies. For Trauma to get a spot on the 2010-11 schedule, the low-rated series will have to inspire more confidence than the new shows.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a real chance at survival or is it still doomed?

NBC we have been posting to this site for so long, yet no word from you. We all want to know if your keeping the show on. We all love it, and want to know. Every week we wait to hear from you, yet nothing. You would rather us watch all re-runs of Law & Order for two hours every saturday night. Also, don’t even tell me that Parks & Recreation, and all those other stupid comedies on thursday night bring in such great ratings. The only one I watch is 30 Rock, the others are so predictable, all we… Read more »
@mollyandme: The show’s ratings are not good and it looks very unlikely that NBC will be bringing it back. We’ll know for sure by mid May.
Thanks so much for letting us know something. We will encourage our friends to watch the show, and stop recording and watch the next day. We really want the show to stay on, but please do a little promo’s during the week, so people know its on.
When I started watching Mercy, i liked Trauma so much more. The only reason I stayed with Mercy was because you took of Trauma, now I love it. Although, I really love Trauma. Thanks so much for listening to us loyal watchers.
I LOVE THIS SHOW AND NOT EVERYONE IS A METIC OR DOCTOR AND ITS NOT LIKE ITS A REALITY SHOW ITS A [D.R.A.M.A] NOT A REALITY !!!!!!!! THERE ISA A BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
trauma is the best show nbc has offered in a long time.. all of my friends have been watching the show since it came back on. please renew for second season..
This show is doable. If you don’t like it dont watch it. I wish they would put Trauma on another time slot or day. Its hard to introduce new shows when people already have their favorite shows. I like that an episode was shot in my hometown Chinatown and for me I prolly follow it every episode if it wasnt on the same time as my two other shows I watch while dvr the other.
Great show last night. Loved it. I think you will see more people tune in now, knowing that 24 is in its final season and ends on May24, last show. boo, hoo. I love 24, love Trauma, but now watch Trauma, and watch 24 the next day on the internet. Please keep our show on!!!
I think this is an awesome show, and it should be back on air with a season 2 coming up.
I think this show is a major winner. I was thrilled to see it return to NBC prime time. The characters are deep, interesting and intriguing. The story lines are riveting. It’s really a class act. Trauma really has it all. Bravo!
Trauma was awesome tonight!! It was exciting as well as pulling on my heart strings. Can’t wait to see next week!!
Mollyandme hit it just right it’s tv that’s all there are already too many reality shows on now who wants more. Some people actually watch tv to get away from everyday life.
Hey guys its “TV”. Some of us like the drama of Trauma. I have to agree with others….yea its a lil dramatic but if you want a real life show turn to the discovery channel or a reality show. If your not watching it how do you know….
Are you people in the medical field kidding me. This is a TV, let me say again TV show. Have you watched Mercy, or any other medical shows, if they only showed you what happens in the field or the hospital who would watch it, but EMT’s or Doctors, wow that would go over well. We watch because its a DRAMA show, with good character who keep us tuned in, who make us watch the show because of them, their love affairs, their families who suffer because they work in medicine. We watch because some of the things probably do… Read more »
what would make it more realistic is if they showed all the ******** calls that we really have to go on lol
Why would a show on tv be real. Anyone who has ever worked fire rescue and EMS knows that the real thing is boring. I was a volly in high school, I had 5 really good, tv-worthy calls in 2 years, the rest where crap. “I stubbed my toe,” or “I have an appointment and no cash.” Just ridiculous stuff that no one wants to see. All shows have to make it look good. All the cop shows are fake (not counting cops, but it does take them weeks of filming for 22 mins of footage), all the hospital shows… Read more »
NBC should have a more realistic approach like a reality show based on something like this. Trauma is an insult to the viewers intelligence in emergency type situations. If the plot is about emt rescue, then being realistic is important.
Cancel trauma and keep the rest of the line ups. Trauma is the bad seed of the bunch.
By Reality Show, Do you mean something like cops where cameras follow them around on calls? Or do you mean something like if a patient doesn’t look too good they can just vote ’em off?
Ok, on a more serious note: Koshchee or Jim, not being an EMT myself I’m curious, what would you different with the show? More specifically, what makes it unrealistic (aside from the overblown action) and what would make it more real?
I myself enjoy the action.
I work in EMS and almost all of my colleauges are very close minded about the show stating, “It’s not true to our job.” “If it had better medicine, more realistic, and less rediculous plots I would consider it.” While some of the actions and medicine does make me feel a little betrayed, I’ve kept an open mind for the simple fact of I think of what my dad said when Emergency! first came on the air. He told me in not so few words the show was rediculous and that couldn’t happen in real life. Thirty years later we… Read more »
