In October, NBC decided not to order any additional episodes of the low-rated series, Trauma, essentially canceling the show after 13 episodes. Then, a few weeks later, NBC ordered three additional installments, likely because they anticipated holes in their spring schedule and the show’s producers were able to significantly cut production costs.
The show’s been off the air since November but the network has now announced that it’s coming back. Is there a chance that the show could actually see a second season?
Taking place in San Francisco, Trauma follows a group of first responders who risk their lives to save others. The cast includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The network recently announced that they were cancelling The Jay Leno Show as of February 12th. That means that, when NBC finishes airing its coverage of the Winter Olympics, the network will have five more hours of primetime to fill. That’s good news for Trauma.

NBC has announced that Trauma will be returning to Monday nights starting on March 8th. They’ve also just ordered three additional episodes, bringing the season total to 20. That means that there are 10 new episodes of Trauma to come.
If the new episodes of Trauma can attract significantly more viewers, the show might have a very good shot at being renewed — especially if the show can continue to be produced economically.
At the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour, Angela Bromstad, NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President, didn’t rule out the show having a future and the new episode order is certainly promising.
However, NBC has plans to beef up their pilot development for next season. The network will develop 10 dramas and eight half-hour comedies. For Trauma to get a spot on the 2010-11 schedule, the low-rated series will have to inspire more confidence than the new shows.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a real chance at survival or is it still doomed?

Love this show! I don’t know what NBC’s problem is, they always want to cancel good shows before they even get off the ground. Maybe they should wait a season to decide if it’s good or not. Seriously NBC has gone down hill in comparasion to the other major networks in TV programing. Law and Order is about all you get on that channel these days. Don’t cancel Trauma!!!! It’s a great show!
I think Tramua is an great show. My father and I love the show. It wouls be ashame if it got cut.
My wife and I loved Trauma, especially “Rabbit”. We were pleased to see it on tonight’s schedule and switched off the show we were watching to view it.
I hope it gets more viewers.
Trauma and Mercy are my 2 top favorite shows. I do DVR them but going forward will watch if this will help. Please do not cancel, you don’t give new shows a chance.
Anyone know if it’s still canceled?
@Demented: NBC just cut the episode order and it’s leaving the air in a couple weeks. VERY unlikely to be back.
Eeeewwww gruesome scenes can we cut anything to do with blood im okay with the rescue stuff on the show but i cant stand blood
love the show…please keep it. I’d hate to have to go through the same thing that happened when Jericho was cancelled!
I am a nurse and I love the show. I think, given a chance, the show will increase it’s viewership.
It might be doomed
The last couple of episodes did start off slow, especially compared to the first three or four episodes of the series. The reason is simple. Money. It seems like I read that one of the reasons it was canceled was that it was costing more than it was making.
However, I still think every new show should get a minimum of one full season before being canceled. Some of the most successful shows of all time didn’t take off until the second or third season.
I agree with Lisa. A friend sent me an email instructing me to watch Trauma then vote here.
She also told me to be honest, so I’m giving it an okay since I got bored the first 5 minutes of the show. It reminded me of Rescue Me without the firefighters.
If networks give shows more than 3 episodes to find an audience before changing time slots or cancelling, maybe we’d become invested in them. Now you watch once, read a review panning every and anything (except cheap reality TV) and you’re afraid to care about the characters. Give the writers a chance to settle in, clearly the shows are only being replaced by something that was already considered second best or a rerun.
Bored! a few minutes into the show.
I know how everyone feels, now we get to watch”a minute to win it” with a chef as host, and as many re-runs of Law & Order, or Law & Order SVU, i have almost tuned out NBC, and look at the newspaper, if its a rerun, i have become a fan of other shows, i refuse to watch re-runs, after re-runs, and a “minute to win it” which is now broadcast on two days, probably because of low viewership.
Just give us our Trauma, and we will go away, promise
What I don’t understand is those that say Trauma isn’t “real”. My brother is a former EMT, a “street medic” of a medium-sized city. He says that Trauma is as real as TV can get it. Are you people who say it’s got too much action in it coming from small cities or are rural volunteers?? Maybe your lack of action is more a matter of where you live and work than a problem with the show. After all, I agree with some of the others – this is TV, not real life. I’m sick of “real” shows. It’s just… Read more »
