In October, NBC decided not to order any additional episodes of the low-rated series, Trauma, essentially canceling the show after 13 episodes. Then, a few weeks later, NBC ordered three additional installments, likely because they anticipated holes in their spring schedule and the show’s producers were able to significantly cut production costs.
The show’s been off the air since November but the network has now announced that it’s coming back. Is there a chance that the show could actually see a second season?
Taking place in San Francisco, Trauma follows a group of first responders who risk their lives to save others. The cast includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The network recently announced that they were cancelling The Jay Leno Show as of February 12th. That means that, when NBC finishes airing its coverage of the Winter Olympics, the network will have five more hours of primetime to fill. That’s good news for Trauma.

NBC has announced that Trauma will be returning to Monday nights starting on March 8th. They’ve also just ordered three additional episodes, bringing the season total to 20. That means that there are 10 new episodes of Trauma to come.
If the new episodes of Trauma can attract significantly more viewers, the show might have a very good shot at being renewed — especially if the show can continue to be produced economically.
At the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour, Angela Bromstad, NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President, didn’t rule out the show having a future and the new episode order is certainly promising.
However, NBC has plans to beef up their pilot development for next season. The network will develop 10 dramas and eight half-hour comedies. For Trauma to get a spot on the 2010-11 schedule, the low-rated series will have to inspire more confidence than the new shows.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a real chance at survival or is it still doomed?

Trauma is a great show. WAY better than Mercy. I loved ER and Third Watch, until they messed up Third Watch so badly that no one watched it anymore. Trauma deserves to be on television. It is more entertaining to watch.
Can’t wait to see the new episodes. I enjoyed each eposide and can’t believe it didn’t take off. I’ll be sure to spread the word for this season to get more views to watch. March 8th…..two and a half weeks to go.
Go Trauma Go! I’m so excited that they have 10 more episodes to show everyone what they got! Tell your family and friends as of course, numbers will always speak for itself 🙂
I am a firefighter myself and i think this show is amazing it follows the kind of stuff i deal with if NBC decides to cut it then im done watching primetime shows . This will end up just like the show SAVED if anyone remembers that which was very similar
If they don’t bring this show back I’m done with NBC. They keep making dumb moves… remember when the canceled Baywatch after 1 season, or how they messed up Third Watch to the point where it was a whole different show that nobody wanted to watch then they canceled it, or Judd Apatow’s Freaks and Geeks… Seth Rogan, James Franco, Jason Segel, and Linda Cardellini are all superstars now and Judd is making a butt load of money putting these same people in movies (except Linda who did a few years on ER), or Southland… TNT just brought from NBC… Read more »
My husband and I thought “Trauma” was the most exciting and interesting TV series that we have ever seen. We are so mad that it was taken off the air, that we have stopped watching NBC altogether. NBC hardly gave people enough time to get to really know the show. And whoever said the comment that it looked too fake, well what on earth are they comparing it to. Whoever put this show together was smart enough to put a continuous story line each week that involved the personal lives of the people. They didn’t have one story about one… Read more »
its fantastic

I love Trauma, great story lines. I would rather see the money and time put in this show and cancel Mercy. Trauma was the reason I came back to NBC, I’ll be gone again if this show goes away.
Yes….so excited Trauma is coming back….wooohooo!!! Can’t wait….they said it will return on Monday evenings beginning March 8th….yeah!!! Everyone make sure you DVR so you can get your TRAUMA fix and help the show to come back.
I love Trauma, and I, like many others, don’t think that the networks give shows like this enough of a chance to thrive. This has been one of my favourite new shows this year, and I just don’t think that it has had a chance to compete with some of the more popular reality and long standing shows like “Lost”. If they cancel this show I will be so upset, and I will seriously consider boycotting NBC.
I love trauma as much as i loved third watch. i like the fact that this show like third watch crosses the lines of rescue and police. please give it a chance to rate a long run like third watch. the trauma in this show is more revealing. please, please, keep it!!!
I say keep the show, new faces…. what the crap every other show has fake in it ….. thats it in a nut shell and yes people have sex in the strangest places and thats in real life ! Also , its about time they have more women helicopter pilots now thats cool…. I always say if you don’t like a certain show don’t watch it 🙂
I agree with the other comments. I had the same feelings after I first saw Trauma that I had when ER started. I was a loyal ER viewer. Yes, I screamed at the TV on a regular basis when there were medical errors, but also realized that it was good entertainment. I also watch Mercy and it could go without me being very bothered. Yes, it also has some medical issues. Trust me there is no one nurse that can do it all. We must remember it is supposed to be for entertainment purposes. I just liked Trauma so much… Read more »
A vote here from the tropical jungle that is Malaysia. Granted the series isn’t aired over here yet, but that’s what the internet is for! Anyway I’m here to say, if you cancel this show, you’d only be adding to your “a__hole of the world” quotient.
