After four years on the air, ABC has decided to pull the plug on Ugly Betty. There won’t be a fifth season but will longtime fans get a true series finale?
Ugly Betty debuted in 2006 and follows young Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) as she navigates her way through the world of high-fashion, working at the trendy magazine Mode. Others in the cast include Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, Mark Indelicato, Michael Urie, Vanessa Williams, and Ashley Jensen.
After being a modest hit for its first two seasons, the series’ viewership dropped to an average of eight million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demo last year. That would usually put a series “on the bubble” but ABC gave it an early renewal. It was pretty clear that the network wanted to try to keep it going to accumulate more episodes for the syndication package.

The network assigned the series to a Friday night timeslot this season, hoping that the loyal fans would follow it there. Not many did. After cancelling Eastwick, they moved Ugly Betty to a better slot, on Wednesday nights. The ratings haven’t been very good there either.
The show’s fate seemed essentially sealed by Ugly Betty’s syndication deal. While episodes of The Mentalist and NCIS: Los Angeles sold for about $2.2 million each in syndication, Ugly Betty episodes have been licensed to the TV Guide Network for “a low six figures.”
Today, the network and production team made a joint statement, saying, “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

I live in Belgium and I looooveee ugly betty, I can understand your point of view and what’s happening but it would be a shame that we get left alone now that it was beginnig to be so exiting, well at least 1 episode, I know it’s cheasy but that’s what most people want I think, one where they finally get in love….
Anyway, whatever happens, I enjoyed the show, maybe it was cheasy for some but it did touched me emotionaly how ever sometimes it was compleately out of proportion,in a nice way,but it made you think sometimes…

I just watched the last episode and I’m in shock!! I’m french and for 4 years I haven’t missed one single episode of this show. Of all series it was the one I would always make time to watch. Ugly betty made me laugh and cry so many times I can’t count and I really really feel something will be missing now. In the middle of the episode I was kind of hoping there would be a sequel in london but now I’m just depressed. What a pour episode for season finale. Certainly it left everyone even more curious about what’s going to happen! Ugly Betty it’s the funiest serie that I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe that someone considers to end it. I beg not to. I can see that I’m not the only one thinking like this. There’s no way we won’t see Betty making up with Daniel! There must be something that we, Ugly Betty fans, can do.
I can´t belive it!!! The show was geting better and better!!! Why would they cancel it now??? I really love the show and I can´t wait to acctually find out what happens to all those amazing characters, espesially betty and daniel…
Please, Please don´t cancel the show. Or at least you can do like a final movie, to finish up the whole story! It worked for Sex and the city, and for Firefly….

And a little bit cheesy, I agree… I am so sad and disappointed the show is over … There should have been at least one more season, I just can’t believe that there weren’t enough viewers in order to keep the show going! I love all the characters and I’m gonna miss them soooo much !!!
I am so sad Ugly Betty is over… I loved all the characters..they all added fun and crazy to the show. Mark/Amanda…can’t say enough.. Crazy Whilamena.. Betty/Daniel..I’m gonna miss the friendship and comfort of the two.. and Betty’s family with their own drama yet whole as a family who loved and cared about one another.. what a nice change… I can’t believe there will be no more Betty… I work really early and could not watch live but always DVR’d my program and enjoyed watching.. how can they do this, i was just getting interesting, i think that they should follow on with betty and daniel in london, with christina and bring the old cast over for drop in performances, how can they do this now, i want more!!!!!!!!!!
i was very shocked to here that ugly betty season 5 was not happening anymore and very disapointed with the final episode i think if abc knew that that was the last season they should of added another two episodes onto season 4 so they didnt have to cram everything together. They could of shown betty in london a little bit more. to me it felt very choppy and not very well thought out. I will miss my betty fix and now i have to find a new program to obsesively watch.

I am from Bulgaria and I love the show so much that I even regard myself as an “Ugly Betty”. What I wanted to read was that Betty will go on with a fifth season and then even a sixth because it’s too great to miss. What I was hopping also to see was Betty and Daniel getting together. I loved every single episode of it and I will miss it very much!

I’m a full time mother and college student. I work part-time and on top of that I have an internship part-time as well. Lately because of my busy schedule I have not been able to watch Ugly Betty when it airs on TV and with the show’s changing it’s airing days and time didn’t help either. I have been catching up on Ugly Betty online. I am very sad to hear that the show has been canceled. I am in SHOCK!!! With all those changes….. there is NO WAY it can be cancelled now!!! What will happen after Betty and Daniel hook up? I cannot live without Marc and Amanda!
