CBS is changing their plans for Golden Boy and Vegas, the network’s two Tuesdays at 10pm series. Golden Boy was supposed to air twice on Tuesday nights before shifting to Fridays for the remainder of its season. Vegas would then return on March 19th.
Now, the network has decided to keep Golden Boy on Tuesdays and is shipping Vegas to Friday nights instead, starting April 5th (once basketball coverage has finished). An episode of Golden Boy will still air tomorrow night, as originally scheduled.
Neither show has been a success for the network but Golden Boy lost very little steam in week two so they may see it as a better bet than Vegas.
Though it’s seemed unlikely that Vegas would be renewed for a second season, a change in scheduling could end up helping the series survive. If Vegas can maintain about the same ratings on Friday nights, it could end up being a viable replacement for venerable CSI: NY. It’s also a good match with Blue Bloods.
The last few episodes of Vegas drew a 1.5 demo rating while CSI: NY’s attracted just a 1.2 in the demo.
Here’s the press release from CBS:
CBS’s NEW DRAMA “Golden Boy” TO REMAIN IN TUESDAY, 10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT TIME PERIOD
An Original “Golden Boy” Will Air This Friday as Previously Scheduled
“Vegas” Moves to Friday, 9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT, Effective April 5
Golden Boy, CBS’s new drama about the meteoric rise of an ambitious cop who becomes the youngest police commissioner in the history of New York City, will remain on Tuesdays (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), after two special previews in the time period.
CBS previously announced that Golden Boy would move to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) after the preview broadcasts on Feb. 26 and March 3. An original episode of Golden Boy will still air this first Friday (March 8) at 9:00 PM, ET/PT as planned.
CBS will give the freshman drama Vegas a look in a new time period, moving it to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) beginning April 5, following the Network’s coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament.
In its two Tuesday broadcasts, GOLDEN BOY is winning its time period in viewers and key demographics, averaging 9.98 million viewers, 2.6/07 in adults 25-54 and 1.7/05 in adults 18-49.
GOLDEN BOY stars Theo James, Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany and Stella Maeve. Greg Berlanti and Emmy Award winner Nicholas Wootton are executive producers for Warner Bros. Television.
Vegas stars Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jason O’Mara, Taylor Handley and Sarah Jones. Greg Walker, Nicholas Pileggi, Cathy Konrad, Arthur Sarkissian and James Mangold are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.
What do you think? Is this good or bad news for Vegas? How about for Golden Boy?
My wife and I really enjoyed Vegas, it was something different and refreshing. We sure hope it doesn’t get cancelled, even if the time slot is changed to friday. Love the characters and the actors playing them. it is a good mix of seasoned stars and new faces.Right on!!!!
Love Vegas. My fav show on TV after NCIS. Pls do not cancel this show!!!
Please do not cancel Vegas, its one of a very few shows worth watching! I hate reslity tv and I am about yo give up o. Network tv
We love “Vegas”. It’s good news it will return on April 5th on Friday nights before “Blue Bloods”. We love “Blue Bloods” as well. “CSI, NY” is a good show and I will miss it if it’s cancelled. All the characters are outstanding. Thanks CBS for not cancelling “Vegas”!!
a great sleeper,VEGAS,, CBS is trying to grow up and be like NBC when they cancelled “star trek” ,you remember how well that worked out, i hope some intellegent life is found in time to keep it on. vegas is a very good show. donn
I hate this plan. CSI-NY is one of the best shows I have watched in a long time. It’s actors/actresses are not over-acting and are easy to relate to. Golden Boy is nothing but a puffed up egotistical young man who thinks he is invincible and the entire show from what I’ve seen on just previews is nothing but junk! If you have to take anything off, why not NCIS-Las Vegas, it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the military, especially the navy, anyway. Whatever you do, I sure hope you don’t cancel NCIS at all.
vegas is a real good show please keep the show on
please do not take vegas off
My husband and I really like Vegas. It’s one of our fav’s. After watching Golden Boy we quickly both said its a thumbs down for us. Bring us Vegas!!!
Meh. It’s not a bad crime comedy. The youngest Lamb and the wooden blonde bimbo could go, would certainly make the show better. Even with those two mediocre actors it’s a decent show.
I love Vegas and would be very disappointed if it is cancelled. I don’t think Golden Boy is a better show. It’s good to see a show about the early days of Vegas.
Please don’t cancel Vegas!! This is a great show with music from the 60’s. This is so entertaining. Please bring it back and cancel some of those stupid sitcoms that’s all over the TV. Vegas appeals to your adult audiences. Please give it a chance. You could take off
Golden Boy, but please keep Vegas.
leave vegas alone, if people would sit and watch, this is greatest new show in long time, other than ncis: los angeles. do not cancel vegas, I love it, can’t wait to watch new episode
Love Vegas and CSI NY. Tried to watch the pilot of Golden Boy and couldn’t keep watching it. I don’t like the story line jumping back and forth from the past and to the present. To much mumbo jumbo garbage all over the place. I like the actor: Chi McBride but none of the others, especially the actor that plays the young commissioner. Tom Selleck fits the part of a NY Police Commissioner not the wimp in Golden Boy.
Can’t wait for April 5th bring on vegas
