There always has to be a first TV show cancellation and this season’s came much later than expected. Though several new shows have been essentially cancelled (Minority Report, Blood & Oil, Truth Be Told, and The Player), they are all still on the air. On Friday the 13th, ABC pulled the plug on their newest (and lowest-rated) drama after just three episodes.
Wicked City is set on the seedy Sunset Strip in the early 1980s. It revolves around Detective Jack Roth (Jeremy Sisto) and his new partner Paco Contreras (Gabriel Luna) as they try to solve a high-profile serial killer case. The rest of the show’s cast includes Ed Westwick, Erika Christensen, Taissa Farmiga, Karolina Wydra, Evan Ross, Anne Winters, and Jaime Ray Newman.
The cancellation was far from a surprise as Wicked City’s ratings were poor right from the start and they dropped lower and lower each week. For whatever reason, the audience just wasn’t interested. However, that’s not to say that the cast and crew didn’t put just as much effort and pride into the series as the creative people who work on a top rated show.
Following the cancellation, some of them took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

What do you think? Will you miss watching Wicked City on ABC? Do you think that ABC could have given the series a better chance?
I thought I had my days wrong of when it came on. I just learned of the cancellation. I’m so upset. I thought it was a great show. *im hoping it gets picked up or become a Netflix exclusive. They need to reconsider and give it another chance. Maybe another time slot?
I really enjoyed this show… I couldnt watch it as it on Tuesdays. I had to catch up on demand… n to find out it got canceled im heart broken!!! I hate this cliff hanger feeling… I think they had a great cast n not a good enough chance… they should finish it.. re air it!
I really love Jeremy Sis to as an actor, and it seemed as though this show would be a perfect fit for him. I don’t understand why the ratings were so poor. Is there a possibility of Wicked City getting picked up by another network? I’m also really bummed that I won’t be able to see the final 5 episodes.
I was wondering why wicked city was not on last night. Only showed 3 seasons and it got cancelled. I liked the show. Don’t seem like it was given a chance .
I loved this show too. However I was bothered by some of the cast who I didn’t feel fit with the stories (Taissa Farmiga and Evan Ross). I don’t have a problem with these two actors I just felt the were forced into the story and didn’t belong. They felt way more of this decade then of the 80’s. So sad it’s gone!!
I feel you all. I’m so sick of falling in love with a show just for it to be cancelled. What is wrong with these networks? Don’t they know if we get tired of giving the shows a chance–just for them to be cancelled–that we can watch something else altogether? Like DVD’s or go catch movies?
Why fall in love with the characters in the show? Why invest one’s time if they’re just going to cancel it? I’m sick of that happening.
I’d have to agree 100%, u took the words right out of my mouth….examples-“Dracula”nbc last year Friday nights.”Hannibal” “American Odyssey” and several others
Cant believe this show was cancelled. I agree with other viewers, there is so many other shows that are garbage. Really? They couldn’t have found something else to cancel. I mean at least with this show you actually had to pay attention and use a small part of your brain to try to understand why he might be killing, why he chose the victims that he chose and why he was fixated on the Nurse! It had suspense, a little gore, great 80’s clothing and music. Such a disappointment. They could have at least gave it 2 more episodes. I… Read more »
I got so totally wrapped up in this show! I think it could have gotten even better if it had been given even half a chance. SO totally unfair to cancel after only three episodes!!! It’s getting to the point where I can’t find much good to watch anymore and when I do…it gets canceled. Why??? So many of the shows I enjoyed at the beginning of the season are gone. 🙁 I’m tired of reality shows and dumb sit-coms. Come on people…give us back some shows that show some intelligence!
I have been wondering why I couldn’t find this show. I was hooked in the first few minutes. There’s plenty of other garbage on tv. Why don’t they cancel some of that!
This was such a good series I can only conclude that it wasn’t properly advertised because although I recommended it to many friends they couldn’t find it!! So blame the networks -yet again another excellent programme trashed by incompetence
I was hooked on this show can’t believe they cancels it!
I agree with Stephanie S., I am beginning to feel discriminated against. The almighty buck wins again. It isn’t as though they could have found another timeslot or venue. So many excellent shows that we attach to and BAM… they’re gone! I also agree with Laura, “Nielsen ratings obviously didn’t poll this one very well.”
It was a great show with a different setting. I loved it. The cast just seemed to fit too. I hate that it was cancelled. I don’t feel it was advertised well, and I’ve heard/read that from others too! I hadn’t planned to watch it until I saw Jeremy Sisto was in it. After the first episode I was hooked! Nothing really stood out about it in the advertisement though. Sure wish it could be given another chance.
I was also there because of Jeremy Sisto. I had just finished Kidnapped on Crackle, so was happy to see he was in a new show. Dang!
Everytime I fall in love with a show they freaking cancel it! I’m so irritated! Love this show! Pretty please give is mpre!
*us more
I liked the series. I hope Netflix or another network will pick them up!
This show became one of my big fav’s, so I was dismayed when I came home Tuesday night to see my DVR wasn’t recording. I immediately googled the show and discovered it had been canceled =/. I am sooooo bummed!!!. This show is intriguing and Ed Westwick is charming and on the same hand a killer. He’s also gorgeous and I can’t get enough of him. Nielsen ratings obviously didn’t poll this one very well.
Loved the show, I think what honestly hurt the show the most was the detective story line. So bummed I don’t get to see the rest of the story play out…
That happened to me to had to work that tuesday night so recorded it on my dvr. Wed. Morning went to watch it and it didn’t record. Cant believe they canceled it was a good show.
