After four seasons on ABC Family, teen drama Wildfire ends tonight. Devoted fans are understandably upset. So, why is it leaving?
Wildfire debuted back on June 25, 2005 and revolves around the world of horse racing. The series began with teen Kristine “Kris” Furillo (Genevieve Cortese) coming to the Raintree Farm from a juvenile detention center.
Season one averaged just over a million weekly viewers and season two increased to 1.56 million, an increase of over 50%. Unfortunately, season three dropped back to the first year’s numbers. Season four debuted in January. Soonafter, ABC Family announced that Wildfire had been cancelled.
Fans have petitioned ABC Family to continue the series. The folks at SaveWildfire.com have sent truckloads of hay, 500 cast iron horseshoes, apples, rope, and 1,000 pounds of carrots. Unfortunately, it’s higher ratings and additional viewers that the show really needs. As CBS learned from Jericho, a passionate campaign doesn’t necessarily mean that viewers will tune in.
ABC Family’s media relations manager, Amy Maloney, told the Albuquerque Journal that the fan support doesn’t come as much of a surprise. She said, “It is par for the course, in a sense that we’ve always known there is a strong fan base for the show… It’s flattering. It’s exciting.” In other words, Wildfire has a core audience but it’s not big enough for ABC Family.
Word is that Lionsgate, the company that produces the series, is looking for a new home for Wildfire. If the series is renewed, producer Lester Berman the cast and crew are ready. He says, “We’re saving a lot of the set dressing and the uniforms. We’re putting it in storage just in case there’s a miracle that [Wildfire] comes back.”
When the cast and crew wrapped their filming in June 2007, they were unsure if they would be back for season five. A few months ago, Cortese spoke proudly of Wildfire and the season four closer. She said, “I think we have one of the best casts and crews in television… On the other hand, we also end (this season) on a really cool note. I’d be glad to go back and get to work again with people I love, but if not, at least I’ll know we did a great job.” Stay tuned! 
I LOVE WILDFIRE ITS THE BEST SHOW EVER. PLEASE PUT WILDFIRE BACK ON. I NEVER MISSED ONE EPISODE. I CAN’T WAIT TIL SEASON 4 COMES OUT ON DVD AND I HOPE A SEASON 5, 6,7, ETC COME ON TV.
I am 43 years old and loved the show also. I always wanted to make sure I was home in time to watch it. It was a family show without all the violence that we have on TV now days. Seems like that is all there is on TV is killing and they wonder where the kids pick it up from. I grew up in the time of the Waltons and Little House on the Prairie. We need more shows like that and this was one that was good for families. I wish they would bring it back
I loved watching wildfire,wildfire was the best shoew ever.I never missed an episode..PLEASE i know that its probably too late but PLEASE consider it in your heart to BRING BACK WILDFIRE..I have like 100 reasons why i loved wildfire soo much….OK PLEASE LISTEN TO ALL THE VIEWERS….
I am 41 years old,Mother with a family who have been waiting for Wildfire to come on…..now I find out it’s canceled!!!!!!! Are you kidding me!!!!! We have been watching WILDFIRE from the start, it is the BEST show out there !!!!!!! I realy hope whoever reads these will take our advise and bring the show back!!!!!! I think if a pole was to be taken you would find that many people would want the show back on….. PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR FAITHFUL VIEWERS!!!!!! WE WANT WILDFIRE BACK ON!!!!!!!!!

I never watch abc family anymore, you should cancelle one of those new shows and put wildfire back on!!! Kris and Junior were the cutest couple ever and i knew they would end up 2gether!!!

Having been apart of horses my whole life, it was nice to see a show on television I could relate to. All these reality shows are way over-rated! I was really hoping that all the petitioning from the fans would have helped at least alittle bit. This was an awesome show and really really hope you all decide to give it another shot. Especially for all the girls like me who’s life revolves around horses, and whos only true friend was my horse. There is no other show like this out there, only crime, cop, and reality….THATS ALL. I really don’t understand why this show had to get cancelled???? There are stupid soaps that have been going on for years and years and haven’t been cancelled… Wildfire was and is a good show… Soaps have the same thing going on over and over again… my mom, aunts, and grandma all watch that stuff and I don’t understand it.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, bring Wildfire back. I LOVE THE SHOW!
